National Lipstick Day 2016

The Dolce & Gabbana lipstick in
True Monica (40).
Today is National Lipstick Day, so I thought I would share one of my favorite lipsticks. This is the Dolce & Gabbana Voluptuous lipstick in True Monica (40). It is a beautiful nude with a semi-matte finish. Not only is it pigmented, but it looks amazing when paired with a smoky eye. Unfortunately it is sold-out virtually everywhere, but I think some boutiques may still have it available. I have been obsessed with wearing nude lipstick since I was 14 years old. Fast forward, as we spring into a new generation and the famous beauty trend of wearing a nude lip is still alive. You just have to love how that works. I think a nude lipstick looks amazing on every woman. If you have tried one and didn't like it, it doesn't mean that you are not meant to wear a nude. It means, you just haven't found the right one.

As I am a huge lipstick lover, I cannot choose just one lipstick that I love over the other, as there are way too many. Everything from luxury lipstick to drugstore lipstick, today is the day to honor all lipstick. I will admit, I always find myself gravitating towards an unique color, yes, but what keeps me interested is the pigment, the formula, the finish and most importantly - how long it lasts. Oh and the smell/taste too. To me, a perfect lipstick is one that I can wear while kissing my boyfriend that won't smudge nor fade. A lipstick that will not mysteriously disappear if I eat ice cream and happen to get sick later on in the day. A perfect lipstick is one that is visible yet hydrating, but does not flake nor dry out the lips. What more can you ask from a lip product? You can ask a lot, but does it mean it will deliver effectively?

Lipstick is as unique as the individual who wears it, embraces it and just generally loves it. Looking back in history, makeup has been around for centuries. And according to Sarah Schaffer who published an article in Reading Our Lips: The History of Lipstick Regulation in Western Seats of Power, Digital Access to Scholarship at Harvard, lipstick has been used for over 5,000 years. However, in the same publication Schaffer states that lipstick has been worn since 3,000 BC. Amazing right?

Another lipstick I have garnered a true love for is the Dior Rouge Dior Nude Lip Blush in Trompe L'Oeil (123). It is a rich and creamy nude with a neutral undertone. It's quite subtle and feels like it belongs in the balm family. This lipstick is one of many in stash, but one of few that I find myself picking up every single day. Consistency says a lot about a lipstick and really proves why it is the ultimate holy grail. It's hard to find; however, one of my reader's sent me a message saying she found this at Cosmetic America. I also believe Nordstrom has some in-stock.
The Dior Rouge Dior Nude Lip Blush
in 123 Trompe L'Oeil.

Depending on a shade, there is always a "dupe" that follows. The question remains; however, is the dupe true to the original shade? Unfortunately, as many lipstick shades tend to match, there are quite a few dupes, yes, but in theory, no shade is exactly the same. Kind of like looking at two apple trees. They may look a like at first glance until further examination of the tree reveals one tree produces more apples then the other. Do you see the distinction?

Lipstick is one of those beauty essentials that allows you to have fun. If you don't think you can rock a haute red, well, that is your choice. Is it the fact you aren't into reds or simply haven't found the right one? Aside from red, there are an array of other shades that you may find appealing. Perhaps you are into neutrals and find a brown looks better on you than a plum. The possibilities are endless, which is why today is a day to have fun and enjoy that wonderfully addictive makeup essential we call lipstick.

Happy National Lipstick Day!

July 2016: Beauty Favorites

The 12-in-1 by Bellami is
one of my favorites this month.
July has allowed us to celebrate everything from Independence Day (July 4th) to Statehood Day (July 10th) and more. As a busy time for conservatives and democrats, this month also revealed two candidates who have the potential to become the next president of the United States. As a beauty enthusiast, I can appreciate a true holy grail; however, I really enjoy trying new essentials including the latest and greatest that the world of beauty has to offer. From late June into early July, I discovered quite a few beauty favorites for the month. So, what are they? What are my favorite beauty products for July 2016?

MAKEUP

Starting off my beauty favorites for this month is the Diorskin Nude Air Luminizer Powder by Dior Beauty. Possessing a highly concentrated pearlescent shimmer that isn't too pigmented or chalky let alone invisible or non-existent, this highlighter is perfect for those looking to achieve a luminous glow. Available this August at Dior counters nationwide and on the official Dior website for $56, this is one of my favorite beauty essentials for the month of July. (Update: It is available right now at Nordstrom)

SKINCARE

Early this month, I discovered an outstanding face mask. Brought to you by ReVive, this mask works generously to purify yourself without destroying your skin's natural acid mantle. As it works to purify your skin, it restores it by removing impurities naturally. I have tried so many masks this month and although I love many, there is something so incredible about the ReVive Masque De Glaise that I just had to share it with you. You can find this amazing gem at ReVive for $125.

BATH & BODY

I have tried quite a few bath and body products this month, including new essentials that I've never heard of. Some of them I loved, others I hated and some I contemplated and debated whether or not I wanted to put them on my skin. In my quest for the best, I discovered the LAFCO New York Nourishing Body Cream. Not only does this cream provide your skin with instantaneous hydration and moisture, but it leaves your skin feeling incredible. The scents leave a lot to appreciate. Fortified with Argan, jojoba, and shea oil as well as a plethora of other healthy ingredients, this GMO-free body cream does not contain any silicones, parabens, sulfates, or dyes. The LAFCO Nourishing Body Cream is available now at Shoptiques for $35.

HAIR

When it comes to hair tools, never have I ever discovered a set with so many until the Bellami 12-in-1. This by far the largest styling kit yet. The set itself includes a 10-in-1 curler set which features 5 tourmaline wands and 5 titanium wands. The curling iron heats up in 10 seconds and features a digital temperature display, a salon swivel cord, and universal voltage. This set also includes a state-of-the-art Baci hairdryer which features two unique attachments and heat settings. Also included is the Runway Flat Styler Iron, Baci styling comb, a thermal glove and two Baci styling clips. The Bellami 12-in-1 is available at Bellami for $649.99; however, you can get over 60% off this price right now just by using the code: 12in1 which brings your total to $239.99.

NAILS

I have tried so many unique and amazing nail products this month; however, if I were to choose a favorite from the bunch for this month, I would definitely say the Pro 45 Light by Red Carpet Manicure. Not only does it dry your polish in less than a minute, it makes your polish last for two weeks. Seeing is believing, so I will definitely be doing a review on this very soon, as I will with all of these favorites I mention today. Although this amazing Red Carpet Manicure addition is works best when you use their (Red Carpet Manicure) products, it will work with just about any nail polish. You can grab the Pro 45 Light at Nordstrom for $50.

FRAGRANCE

When it comes to fragrance, I love one that possesses an unique scent that stands out, but isn't too powerful. I also enjoy one that has a balance of notes that work together and a powerful sillage, as I enjoy embracing "the little goes a long way" concept. Late last month, I had the privilege of discovering Rose Pompon by Annick Goutal. If you can imagine rose notes mixed with blackcurrant, pink pepper, and raspberry with a hint of peony, this is what this fragrance smells like. Plus, it's sillage is quite powerful so a little goes a long way. Available at Annick Goutal for $149, this is one of greatest fragrances I have ever smelled in my life.

OTHER

One of the perks of being a beauty writer as well as enthusiast is having the opportunity to discover and try new products. One of my recent discoveries is the Iconic London EVO 001 brush. This brush is designed to adapt to the contour of your face. Made up of unique fibers, this brush ensures flawless application. I love this brush because it is so much like the Artis Oval brushes, but a little more round. You can snag the EVO 001 brush at Iconic London for $36.82.

Get the hair look: Kim Kardashian's mile-high glam breakdown

Kim Kardashian's mile-high glam.
Kim Kardashian is one of the most beautiful women alive and quite possibly the most popular socialite on the planet. What started as an idea, turned into reality for the television personality. In a recent retreat, Kardashian took her glam squad on a mile-high adventure to the Hamptons. The glam squad consists of a variety of gifted beauty enthusiasts including the talented hairstylist Justine Marjan. Just recently Marjan was able to create a haute hair look featuring a messy topknot to complement Kardashian's curve hugging dress.

So, is it possible to re-create this amazing hair look at home? Absolutely.

First and foremost, you want wash, condition and blow dry the hair. As part of the preparation, Marjan applied the Paul Mitchell Dry Wash and Spray Wax to Kardashian's hair to prep it. Now, taking the Paul Mitchell Marulaoil Detangling brush, Marjan started brushing the beautiful reality star's hair.

As Marjan continued she, split Kardashian's hair into two sections with the topmost section from ear to the crown of her head. Then, the celebrity hairstylist gathered the top section of the hair into an ultra high ponytail, leaving loose some strands around the hairline before securing Kardashian's hair with an elastic.

Then, taking the Paul Mitchell Marulaoil Classic Dressing brush, Marjan gathered the bottom half of Kardashian's hair and attached the top ponytail with a hair bungee. Next, she applied the Paul Mitchell Dry Wax throughout the length of the ponytail and rough up with fingers.

Once Marjan accomplished this, she started to twist and knot Kardashian's hair into a topknot, securing with bobby pins and french pins to hold the hair. Then, she pulled loose any stray strands around the nape of the next, before finishing the hair look with the Paul Mitchell Marulaoil Perfecting Hairspray.

Congratulations! You have just re-created Kim Kardashian's mile-high glam breakdown.

Get the hair look: Frankie Bikinis 2017 Summer collection

Frankie Bikinis recently introduced their 2017
collection.
(Photo provided by TRESemme)
When it comes to a fun California vibe that is seductive in nature, Frankie’s Bikinis 2017 Summer collection epitomizes it. Made up of flirty floral and pretty pastels with a hint of cute crochet, this collection is everything you would imagine it to be. To complement the style and the playful aesthetic of the entire collection, Frankie's Bikinis teamed up with TRESemmé Stylist Tyler Laswell for voluminous, beachy waves.

So, is it possible to re-create this look at home? Absolutely.

First and foremost, you are going to want to the prep the hair. After doing a full blow out, you are going to want to take the hair and split the hair into four even sections. These sections include the top, the bottom, the left and the right sides of the head.

Then, you are going to want take the TRESemmé TRES Two Climate Protection Mousse through each section, one at a time. As you continue, you are going to want to blow dry using a diffuser. This works amazingly to protect against humidity and bring out natural wave.

As you continue, you are going to want to twist each section around itself, as if you were turning the hair into a rope. Then, take that hair and wrap it into a loose bun. Next, you want to secure the bun with safety pins. For extra texture as well as hold, you can add a little bit of heat by using a blow dryer.

To finish the look, you are going to want to  release the braids. Then, shake out with fingers and set the look with TRESemmé TRES Two Climate Protection Hairspray.

Congratulations! You have just re-created the amazing hair look for Frankie's Bikinis 2017 Summer collection.

Examiner.com is closing: How to save your work

As you may or may not already be aware, Examiner.com is shutting down on July 10th. The website announced the close via email July 1st (Friday) with no real explanation. Media consumption has transformed dramatically over the years and as a result, content has been made more about the business priority rather than the meaning behind it. As of July 1st, Examiner.com is no longer taking submissions. With only 10 days to save your work, it can be modestly time consuming and virtually impossible if you have no help and thousands upon thousands of content. Today is July 5th so you now have only 5 days to save your work.

Although it's great to have a helping hand (Thank you so much, Joe, I love you) not everyone has the luxury of having someone help them backup their content. Recently, I discovered a program that has made this so much easier. You have no idea. It is called the Local Website Archive. You can download the program here.

Go to the page you want to save, select 'Add' followed by 'Continue' and let the program guide you through the rest. It's simple and allows you to save your work with just the click of your mouse. The Local Website Archive is efficient and quite effective when saving individual pages.

Since Examiner.com is closing, I will be writing with AEG's entertainment site, AXS.com who purchased Examiner.com in 2014. As always, I will continue to publish and share great content with you. If you haven't already applied to write for AXS, I highly encourage you to do so as it is a great platform.
