New York City is not only home to the New York Yankees, it is home of some of the best veggie burgers in the United States. As a lacto ovo vegetarian, I have encountered so many eateries that made terrible veggie burgers, as I have encountered so many eateries that made amazing veggie burgers. After trying an array of veggie burgers in the big apple, I have decided to narrow them down to only the top 10 places to find a great veggie burger in New York City.

10. Shake Shack. When it comes to what constitutes as an amazing veggie burger, there are a lot of qualities that come into play. Not only should the veggie burger possess a balanced flavor that is highly delectable, but the veggie burger should be served with ingredients that praise the burger. I have tried a lot of veggie burgers where the taste was so acquired, yet worked well, as I have tried veggie burgers that were simply disgusting. When visiting NYC last year, I had the pleasure of eating at Shake Shack. It was then, that I discovered this eatery possesses some of the best veggie burgers in New York City. There are several Shake Shacks in the heart of the big apple, however; the best Shake Shack establishment is definitely the one located in Madison Square Park on 11 Madison Avenue at 23rd Street. If you are looking to enjoy a fabulous veggie burger, I truly recommend Shake Shack. The “Shroom Burger” is fabulous. Not only is it highly appetizing, it’s original. There are absolutely no veggie burgers like this in the city. It is only $6.75. 9. Rabbithole. Some of the best veggie burgers can be found right in your area, as well as, an area you intend to visit. One day while visiting friends in the Brooklyn area of NYC, I had the greatest pleasure of discovering Rabbithole. I absolutely love the pickled vegetables that come with this fabulous addition to Rabbithole, as they truly flatter the veggie burger. 8. Westville East. So many things in life surprise me and Westville East is just one of those many things. Located in New York City on 173 Avenue A at 11th Street, Westville East is the place to be. If you are looking to enjoy the perks of what makes an amazing veggie burger, look no further, as Westville East is it. The “Veggie Burger” which costs $11 is so worth every penny. Plus, for $1 more, you can add Cheese and Grilled Onions and for $1.50 more you can add avocado. There are other vegetables you can add too including tomato and raw onion. The veggie burger comes with fries and/or a salad. After trying numerous veggie burgers, the Veggie Burger here is to die for, making it one of the best in the city. Westville East is a force to be reckoned with. Delivery is also an option, so if you are looking to enjoy a great veggie burger from home, you can do that. Although you have to try a few bad burgers to get to the good ones, it is so fun learning what places make great ones. Pink Pony is one of those places. Located in the heart of New York City on 176 Ludlow Street in between Houston and Stanton Street lies Pink Pony, one of the best places in New York City to get a great veggie burger. The “Vegetarian Burger” here is about $8.75, however; you can make it a cheese for only $1 more. The veggie burger comes with your choice of fries, which truly compliment the burger. I absolutely love this restaurant and tend to visit it again. The Pink Pony tends to only accept cash as a form of payment, so it is important to visit the ATM before eating here. 6. Black Iron Burger Shop. Have you ever run into a great restaurant without actually searching for it? In the case of the Black Iron Burger Shop, I did. I am a lacto ovo vegetarian, so although I was rather reluctant to eat there, it is a well known fact that every burger joint includes a veggie burger now days and in the case of Black Iron Burger Shop, it definitely does. Located on 540 E. 5th Street in the heart of New York City in between Ave A and Ave B lies the Black Iron Burger Shop. If you are looking for a fantastic veggie burger, you are going to love this eatery. The veggie burger here is not called a veggie burger, it is called a “Falafel Burger”. It is a huge patty, but incredibly delicious and it costs only $6. Plus, you can order cheese, as well as, toppings and condiments for on it. I love the grilled mushrooms, as well as, the grilled onions with swiss cheese and mayonnaise. It is important to have cash on hand, as this eatery tends to only accept cash. Although some of them make good veggie burgers, the best definitely come from the Energy Kitchen located on 1089 2nd Avenue in between 57th and 58th Street. I have been to an array of Energy Kitchen restaurants and I have found that the Energy Kitchen in this area makes incredible veggie burgers. The veggie burger comes with an array of veggies such as zucchini and peppers. The veggie burger is also served with a tomato and lettuce combination on a fresh whole wheat roll. The veggie burger here costs about $6.99. If you are looking to enjoy your food at home or at the office, you can do so, as delivery is available. Online ordering is also available. 4. Cozy Soup n’ Burger. You don’t have to be a vegetarian to enjoy a veggie burger. I may be a vegetarian, but in all honesty, I have never dated a vegetarian. Veggie burgers can be enjoyed by everyone, as they are not only flavorful, but very highly nutritious. They are also much healthy for you than regular burgers. If you are looking to enjoy a great veggie burger, I definitely recommend Cozy Soup n’ Burger. Delivery is also available. Located in the heart of Manhattan on 738 Broadway Street in between Astor and Waverly Place lies Cozy Soup n’ Burger. Cozy Soup n’ Burger is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in New York City. The food is great and there is a fantastic selection. Most recently, when frequenting this fine restaurant, I had the greatest pleasure of trying the “Jumbo Veggie Burger” for $7.25 and I must say that it was amazing. The waiter mentioned that you can take any of the burgers on the menu and substitute the real meat with the alternative, the veggie. I think next time, I may do that. 3. Soho Park. The last time I visited New York City, I had the great pleasure of dining at Soho Park. Located on 65 Prince Street at Lafayette Street lies one of the best places to enjoy a great veggie burger in New York City, Soho Park. The veggie burger at Soho Park is incredibly delicious and I would recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy a great one. It costs only $6.75. Plus, there are an array of dipping sauces you can purchase for just $.75 that can compliment your veggie burger. I absolutely love the Black Olive Mayo. Soho Park is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30 am until 12 am (kitchen may close at 8:30 pm, although not sure) and Sunday from 10 am until 8 pm. 2. Curly’s Lunch. When it comes to choosing a great veggie burger, there is a lot to consider. Not only should the veggie burger taste good, but the ingredients should also compliment the taste. If you are searching to discover a great veggie burger fix, you cannot go wrong with Curly’s Lunch. Curly’s Lunch is located at 328 E. 14th Street in between 1st and 2 Avenue, in New York City. Curly’s Lunch is a vegetarian-friendly restaurant, so you can expect to choose from an array of options. With everything from the “Buffalo Blue Cheeseburger” for $8.95 to the “Cheeseburger” for $8.50. I, personally, love the Cheeseburger and tend to get that almost every time I eat at Curly’s Lunch. Every veggie burger is served on a Ciabatta roll. Plus, there are a variety of sides to choose from. You can even purchase the burger without the bun. 1. Hillstone. After trying hundreds of veggie burgers, I have come to the conclusion that Hillstones makes the best in New York City. Located in the heart of Manhattan on 153 E. 53rd Street at 3rd Avenue lies one of the best eateries in the big apple, Hillstones. If you are looking to enjoy the best veggie burger in NYC, you are destined to not only love Hillstone, but appreciate that much more. This exceptionally delicious veggie burger is made up of short grain rice in a black bean patty and served on a soft house-made egg bun, with cheese and an array of your favorite toppings. You can ask for anything extra too. The burger is fresh and incredibly delicious. The veggie burger is served with your choice of side. The only weakness that I can think of is the price, as the house-made veggie burger is about $17. It is very much well worth it though.
