Valentine's Day is the celebration of love, lust, admiration, and affection. Often dubbed as a "Hallmark holiday" this world-renowned honor of romance is observed by love birds all over the world. As many may not consider Valentine's Day a public holiday because of it's western influence and restrictions around the world, this day of passion isn't celebrated by everyone. However, despite this 24-hour celebration, it can be relatively stressful and exhausting if you are unprepared especially to those of us who celebrate it here in the United States.
Most people honor their love with everything from red roses and chocolates to intimate dinners and wine to even 3-day trips in other countries and much more. But as amazing as these things are, there is a very melancholic story behind today. If you look at the history behind Valentine's Day (which a quick Google search can show you this) you will notice a depressing chronicle about a third-century saint named Valentine who was martyred on February 14, 296 AD for staying true to his beliefs. As a strong advocate for love and marriage, his beliefs were frowned upon during his time. Many theological theorists believe he is the real reason Valentine's Day exists today.
As much as we want to celebrate love, as well as, acknowledge and honor those we do love, not all elucidates are created equal. According to European mythology, Valentine's Day represents a new dawn, a new day, a new eve, a new night, and a new life with the emergence of Spring. This folklore also embraces the conception of manifestation by encouraging light into every life form, giving us the gift of good health and a good environment.
In numerology, if you look at the number 02/14 you will notice quite a few things. Two always represents two things. It can represent two souls, as it can represent a comparison of something. Life and death, fire and water, fact and fiction, and light and dark are just some of the many comparison examples. The number one symbolizes creation, connection, and growth. The number four represents desire, salvation, and wealth. If you combine the two, evidently you have 14. What does 14 mean? This fascinating number connected to Valentine's Day means both love and growth, as well as, the love of growing and the growing of love.
If you add 1 + 4 you get 5. Five symbolizes quite a few things, but it represents the senses here. When you combine this with twenty it means action and empowerment. Now, taking the number 2020 which has a spiritual meaning of peace and support--this is reassurance that everything in your life is happening for a reason. That if you try to change it, it will not change. All of the adversity you are enduring and the struggles you are facing, are just temporary and do not last forever. If you are happy, cherish this happiness as if it were your last. This is a reminder that you are in total control of your life and that nothing lasts forever except love. If we love ourselves and who we are, we can rely less on others to do so.
Some of my favorite songs to listen to on Valentine's Day are At Last, Without You, I Will Always Love You, From This Moment On, The Reason, Open Arms, My Heart Will Go On, I Believe In You, Footprints In The Sand, Love Of A Lifetime, Crying, Grenade, Didn't We Almost Have It All, I Believe In You And Me, E.T., and Faithfully. I know I am leaving out like a million more.
I know some of you are reading this and feeling sad because you feel like you don't have a reason nor desire to celebrate today. Well, guess what? Whether you are in a serious relationship, dating, married, engaged, widowed, or single--you can celebrate Valentine's Day simply because it is a day that allows you to cherish love from all aspects of life.
