Gaming YouTuber Etika found dead

RIP Etika
(May 1990-June 2019)
It is official, Desmond Amofa (also known as Etika) has been found dead. The NYPD took to Twitter to make the sad announcement a little bit ago to share the news. I really wanted all of the speculation I had regarding his disappearance to just be nothing more than speculation, but today it became a tragic reality.

And after watching his video, I am 100% certain he took his own life. This is quite possibly one of the most tragic deaths of 2019 simply because when he was filming, no one could have possibly known nor imagined the battle he was fighting.

In the end, he lost his battle.

Mental illness is very much real and it is should never be mocked as being fictitious. If you are suffering from depression, anxiety and are contemplating suicide, please reach out to me. If you are struggling and battling with the thought of ending your life, you are not alone as there are millions of people just like you. You are not crazy, so don't think you are. Remembering my cat Murphy two years later

Today marks the 2nd anniversary of my dear cat Murphy's death. As many of you are already aware, Murphy died two years ago today on April 19, 2017, in my arms. After suffering from several problematic health issues, my cat left the world unexpectedly, leaving me devastated. You can read my original blog post here regarding what happened.

She brought so much joy and happiness to my life as a cat companion. She and I traveled often. My life was never a dull moment with her, as she always made life exciting. Although some may say "she's just a cat" Murphy was much more. She was family.

Murphy was one of a kind. And as I will always remember her life, I will never forget the joy she brought into mine. She will be forever missed.

Listen to my rendition of Memory in honor of her. Just click here now. Gone, but never forgotten. I will always love you, Murphy.

Rest in Peace Luke Perry

Today, I heard about the sad news of Luke Perry today while at work. Then, I went on Twitter to check and see what others were saying in regards to his death. As you may or may not be already aware, Luke Perry died today at the age of 52. After suffering from a stroke, many thought he would have recovered. Sadly, he lost his battle today.

Luke Perry was a part of my childhood, as I grew up watching him on Beverly Hills 90210. He played the role as Dylan McKay, a mysterious rebel who was introverted yet had a kind spirit to befriend virtually everyone he knew. He had more of a "bad boy image" which was portrayed amazingly by Luke Perry.

I was about 9 years old when Beverly Hills 90210 first aired. I watched it from the beginning in late 1990 until the end in 2000, when I was 19. And although I was busy during college, I always had the opportunity to watch the show as someone I knew would also watch it and would record it.

When you think of someone or something that is part of your childhood, you are reminded of it when it is brought up. And as much as you think you can forget, it would take an entire lifetime to do so. Today, I was reminded of mine when I heard about the passing of Luke Perry. Although I don't watch much television anymore, I remember Beverly Hills 90210 like yesterday and being a little girl and looking forward to every single episode that would air that week.

My prayers go out to his family. Gone, but never forgotten. Rest in Peace.

RIP Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld

Today the world of fashion, including fashion enthusiasts around the globe have suffered an immense loss as we all say goodbye to one of the greatest designers, Karl Lagerfeld. As the creative director for world-renowned fashion house Chanel, Lagerfeld spent over 35 years with the brand.

Lagerfeld has been sick for quite sometime; however, he managed to check himself into the American Hospital of Paris yesterday. He died today. As the cause of death is unknown, the world remembers one of the greatest fashion visionaries for his contributions to fashion.

The internationally known designer spent several years with Balmain before joining Chloe. As some of his work was ridiculed in the press during the 50s and 60s era, Lagerfeld didn't give up. He jumped immediately into a collaboration with fashion house Fendi shortly after spending several years with both Balmain and Chloe. He continued to work, designing clothing for some of the greatest starlets in cinema including Elizabeth Taylor and even designed theatrical costumes on Broadway. He also created work overseas for an array of brands before finding a home at Chanel, where he remained the creative director from 1983 until his death today.

In addition to working as the creative director for Chanel, Lagerfeld has worked with an array of brands including Diesel, Orrefors, H&M and even Shu Uemura. In fact, I worked with Karl back in 2015 when he collaborated with Shu Uemura. I was a content producer for Examiner at the time. It was a joy working with him, as he was optimistic and always looked forward to doing something new. His beautiful cat Coupette was the main part of the collection he did with Shu Uemura. I still have the amazing eye shadow palette as well as the lip glosses he sent me.

"I am a fashion person and fashion is not about clothes - it's about all kinds of change." Karl Lagerfeld

Rest in Peace.

A tragic day in Pittsburgh

Today I would like to take a moment to pray for the victims and their families of the Pittsburgh shooting. As many of you are already aware, a man named Robert Bowers stormed into the Pittsburgh synagogue and killed about a dozen people. Although I have friends from that area, including Jewish friends, I did not know any of the victims. It truly hurts me to see this on the news, as Pittsburgh to me was one of the safest cities in America.

I have had the pleasure of not only residing in Pittsburgh for many years, but attending college there also. I lived there from 1999 until 2003. Then, I stayed there for many months from Spring 2013 until Winter 2014). Pittsburgh will always be a place I will forever appreciate and be very near and dear to my heart. To think such a tragic event occurred today has me so sad.

With a heavy heart, I am praying for not just the victims and their families, but the entire city of Pittsburgh. This is one of the most tragic days in the steel city and I pray that the city is protected from such hate in the future.

Update, here are the victims of this terrible tragedy in the steel city:

Joyce Fienberg
Daniel Stein
Melvin Wax
Irving Younger
Bernice Simon
Sylvan Simon
David Rosenthal
Rose Mollinger
Richard Gottfried
Cecil Rosenthal

Rest in Peace Anthony Bourdain

Anthony Bourdain was one of the few people I enjoyed watching on reality television. And to be honest, I am not a fan of reality television much unless I find the show to have a a somewhat educational angle. Something like Bering Sea Gold on the Discovery Channel or Forged in Fire on the History Channel, etc. Bourdain's shows were more than shows, but endless journeys and escapades that allowed you to experience food from around the world, right from your TV.

When he visited Iran, I was stunned (and If you haven’t watched that episode, you need to - Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown Iran episode 6). He said the nicest things about Iranian people and had a lot to offer when visiting there. I've watched his other shows also and they were quite interesting.

But the real question is - why did Anthony Bourdain take his own life? What was he escaping from? At 61 years of age, what made him want to hang himself? Bourdain is also proof that mental illness does not discriminate and no matter how happy you assume a person is, the pain is always often hidden. It is very unfortunate he passed away and hearing the news has left the world sad.

Rest In Peace, Anthony Bourdain.

Tribute to Angela Spicer

So, I am on Smule this evening recording. I decided to record "Who Wants To Live Forever" (originally by Queen) and took it upon myself to dedicate the song to Angela. Angela was a fan of Queen and loved Freddie Mercury. She also enjoyed Adam Lambert (the latest front man of the band). She loved this song and would always tell me that if she died, she would want me to perform at her funeral.

I would laugh and tell her she would not die. Looking back, I really didn't think she would die, as she was starting to turn her life around. But now that she is gone, I can only grieve and move on, remembering the good, as I should. I am very sad about her passing last month. If you cannot hear the song, simply click here right now. Listen with headphones.

Tonight, I dedicate this song to Angela.

Rest in Peace, Angela.

Rest in Peace Angela

Me and Angela a few years ago.
In 2009 I met Angela Spicer at a casino in Dillon, Montana. It was the casino that was straight across the street from my house at the time. When I first met her, she was very kind and complimentary. We talked about everything from the casino to art to music and more. We decided to exchange phone numbers and shortly after developed a friendship that lasted almost a decade.

Angela was a psychic medium with a lot confidence. When I first met her, she told me about my grandmother and even said she was standing next to me. Without even knowing anything, she blurted out her name. She was definitely fascinating in that aspect and used her gifts often to help others without asking for a single cent. She lent her gifts to the Morgan Ingram case and saw a lot of things regarding Morgan's stalking and her murder. Although Angela didn't have a lot of ambition, she was a visionary in a sense where she saw good in virtually everything and wanted to do good things in her life for herself and for others. Every time we would hang out, there was never a dull moment or any hatred and anger towards anything.

Angela knew what was death was like because as a psychic medium, she was able to feel so much when communicating with spirits. I remember talking to her on the phone and I asked her about death. She told me it was like a rebirth. As your body dies, your soul never does.

Today, I am so heartbroken as I type this, as I learned that she has passed away. At just 35 years of age, I did not learn about the news from anyone close to her nor did I receive a phone call either. I heard of her passing on her Facebook under her final post which was posted yesterday. I am shocked because she usually calls me; however, I had my phone number changed and she could not reach me.

Angela was found dead in her car, which was parked in a parking lot of a grocery store in Ely, Nevada. She had plans to check herself into a mental hospital, as she met a guy in Ely and the guy left her for another woman. Her ex Clint from Wyoming is a nice person and told me that she had plans to bring her stuff to his place. I actually saw the text messages and exchanges the night before she died today between those two.

She never made it to Clint's house.

As an investigation is being held regarding her death, some of her closest friends believe the man she was dating had something to do with her death, as he went and used her vehicle after she was found, however, Angela has a history of suicide attempts over various men and she also has several health problems. There is talk from other friends that she may have died from taking her insulin and not eating, when it is very important to do so. I could probably speculate, but I am too sad to think right now. It is as if this is not even real.

I will never forget the memories with Angela. Going to the amusement park with her and riding the rides while taking pictures and stuffing our faces with carnival candy, going shopping with her and eating out afterwards, cooking food with her and having her try an array of plant based favorites and just having a wonderful time. Every time she and I hung out, it was always a blast; however, we only hung out a few times. We talked more via text and/or phone more than anything. I haven't seen Angela in a few years and it has been months since we last spoke. I am very sad today regarding her death.

I am very sad today. Rest in Peace, Angela. You may be gone, but you will never be forgotten.

RIP Murphy

I am so heartbroken. There are no words to describe how I am feeling. My dear cat Murphy has died. She was sick for quite a while; however, the way she passed away has left me shattered, distraught and devastated. She was walking out to the dining room and collapsed. I am not sure if she was having a heart attack or a stroke.

As I tried to revive her, she crawled to me, struggling to meow and breath. I looked at her and told her it was "ok" to go and I would see her in the next life.

She died immediately after.

As I struggle to wipe away the tears, my heart is heavier than ever. I remember my life with this precious, sentient being and can only question why good things don't last forever. Why her? And I have to admit, I feel as if I lost a family member.

With that said, they say it takes a moment to meet someone, a day to appreciate them, a week to like them, a month (or more?) to love them, but it takes an entire lifetime to forget them. Rest in Peace Murphy. I will never forget the amazing cat that you were in this lifetime and the impact you made in my life. You will be forever missed. Laid to rest: 2003-2017

RIP Dr. Brandt

Today I am deeply saddened by the passing of my great friend Dr. Brandt. As the founder of Dr. Brandt skin care and one of the first physicians to ever administer botox and fillers, he was a real visionary in dermatology and always believed everyone deserved great skin. He always saw the beauty in everything and had one of the nicest hearts.

I am very upset today. Not just because he is no longer with us, but because of how he actually died. He was depressed for quite sometime, but didn't have the strength to fight. He committed suicide. It really makes my heart hurt today.

I worked with Dr. Brandt several years ago when I interviewed him for Yahoo! Voices. He was one of the nicest people I ever spoke with. He could tell you everything about your skin and was extremely passionate about beauty, including his line work.

He will be forever missed.

Rest in Peace Frederic Brandt. (1949-2015)

Today Is Freddie Mercury's Birthday

Happy Birthday Farrokh Bulsara! In my opinion, there is no other artist in the world like Freddie. He had the voice, the artistry, the personality, and the charisma. His style and image was one thing, however, every time he opened his mouth, you knew it was him singing and as a result, he had unbelievable projection because he made you believe what he was singing about. Freddie delivered vocally through every single performance.

If I had to choose my top 10 favorite songs by Freddie Mercury/Queen, I really couldn't, however; my favorites right now include:

In My Defence
Bohemian Rhapsody
Who Wants To Live Forever
The Show Must Go On
I Want To Break Free
Barcelona
There Must Be More To Life Than This
It's Late
Mr. Bad Guy
Thank God It's Christmas
Deliliah
The March Of The Black Queen
Princes Of the Universe
Living On My Own
Foolin' Around
Radio Ga Ga
Liar
Funny How Love Is
A Kind Of Magic
Save Me
Let's Turn It On
Somebody To Love
We Are The Champions
You And I
Don't Try Suicide
It's A Hard Life
Jesus
Under Pressure

You may be gone, but you are never going to be forgotten in this life time. Happy Birthday Freddie!

RIP Nelson Mandela

It is official, activist, political leader and philanthropist Nelson Mandela has died. At 95 years of age, I would say that he lived a really great, long life. As South Africa's first black "head of state" (or president) of South Africa, he did a lot to change the internal resistance to apartheid. He was one of the first leaders in the world to create his own social movement using a nonviolent approach. He also proved that you did not need to go to war to make changes, hence why he really embraced the passive resistance concept.

In addition to being South Africa's first black leader from 1994 to 1999, Mandela was president of the ANC from 1991 until 1997. In the early 60's (I think 1964) Mandela actually went to prison, where he would serve 27 years until his release in 1990. Having been arrested for treason for simply advocating nonviolent approaches to violence, the former attorney then left the country. Eventually Mandela was released.

Having been one of few to want to combat the poverty problem in Africa, Mandela exhibited a commitment to the value of life, liberty and love. He wanted to genuinely help people and strongly believed in free speech. Personally I didn't agree with some of his political beliefs; however, he was very true to his beliefs and never put his country in a bad place nor made a decision to jeopardize the people.

His story is quite fascinating and if you are looking to read an interesting one about a political figure, I definitely recommend that you read about Nelson Mandela. In 1999 he officially retired from all things political, but remained a strong advocate for many years up until his death today.

Nelson Mandela was a man with a voice, a vision and a message. A message so powerful, he will forever be the force and the face for the change of the internal resistance of apartheid in Africa.

Rest in Peace Nelson Mandela.

RIP aunt Carol

Well, it is official. My aunt Carol Reiff was found dead today at the age of 59. After missing for several days, she was found today. Her body was almost unrecognizable. This truly breaks my heart and makes me look at life differently.

Carol was a wonderful soul who I was proud to know all throughout my childhood years. I remember when I was only 6 years old (I am 32 now) and she would swim with me, sister and my cousins in one of those small, blow-up pools. I think I still have the pictures my mom took. It is so hard to believe she is gone.

There is an active investigation in her case. Based on examination of the body and the case, the police have suspected and determined she is a victim of foul play. When I reached out to a psychic several days ago, they confirmed she was not only deceased, but murdered. This is a real tragedy.

I am deeply saddened by her passing and express supreme sympathy to my cousin Dawn who found out only a few hours ago. RIP Carol, you may be gone, but never forgotten. Please pray my family during this difficult time.

Rest in Peace Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson has officially died and the news is circulating faster than anything I have ever witnessed in my 28 years of living. Everywhere you go, this is all you hear. This is quite possibly one of the saddest days for many people, especially his fans. I am at the grocery store and there are people in tears, sobbing over the king of pop's passing.

The song "The Way You Make Me Feel" is playing and it is really sad to think that such a talented man who brought so much to music is gone. I keep thinking about his death and wondering if it really was drug related. I'm only receiving one-sided information, so I have no clue really what to think of it.

He had so many great songs. If I had to choose a favorite, I am not sure which one I would choose, as I like a lot of them. I know, I heard a song called "We've Had Enough" a few years ago, which was good. I really like the song "They Don't Really Care About Us" as I really like the song "Morphine" but as I stated previously, he's introduced a lot of great music to us.

To me, when I like of pop music as a genre, I think of Michael Jackson. I think he truly invented the genre. Today's music we hear on the radio wouldn't exist without Michael Jackson and his influence. Today is a very sad day in music, that is certain.

Gone, but never forgotten. You will leave a legacy which will remain forever. Rest in peace, King of Pop. Rest in Peace, Michael Jackson.

RIP Bettie Page

Bettie Page was one of the most iconic women in history, as she was one of the first models to take a risk. She was unique as she was curvy and had an appeal that was different from most women during the 50's era. Lets not forget about her trademark jet black hair that was fringed in the front, fair skin and pale blue eyes.

If you can think of the word "pin-up" Bettie Page defines every aspect and sense of the word. In fact, I would say she probably epitomized pin-up persuasion where she brought back the original burlesque in a modernized fusion. Her look made an immense impact on society, as she was timeless with a lot of spirit to match.

In fact, if you look at photos of her back in the 1950's, you would think most of them were taken this year. She was ahead of her time and definitely left a legacy behind, especially to those who enjoyed the glamorization of all things pin-up.

Today, Bettie Page died. She was 85. Although she lived in a very sad life (in and out of mental institutions, etc.) she did more good than she did harm. She will be forever remembered as the world's most popular pin-up model.

RIP Bettie Page.

RIP Anna Nicole Smith

Anna Nicole Smith has officially died. I heard about the news hours ago. It is very sad to hear that she died. As the cause of death is unknown, many are speculating she died from a drug overdose. I am also hearing stories that some think Howard Stern murdered her; however, I am unsure if I believe that.

Her son died of a drug overdose only several months ago in September of last year. It seems like yesterday when that happened. Sometimes I believe the guilt and sadness of this forced her to overdose. We can only speculate, as not many facts have been released regarding this.

I really loved Anna Nicole Smith because she reminded me of a friend of mine I met back in 2003 who lived near me. This friend (her name was Michelle) looked like Anna Nicole Smith. She even talked like her also. She was also tall too. Every time I would see Anna Nicole Smith on television, I was reminded of Michelle.

Although some of you may have thought Anna Nicole Smith was weird or even a little crazy, she was a human being who brought something unique to pop culture. She was beautiful and she didn't care what others thought. Regardless of the negative, she will be deeply missed by millions around the world.

RIP Anna Nicole Smith.
