First Day of Summer 2018

It is officially the first day of Summer. I woke up in a relatively great mood. The weather is incredible, as it is not too hot or cold. Although the humidity prevents it from being pristine, I would say the environment is close to it for the first day of the hottest season. I am going to leave for work shortly, but want to make a smoothie before I go. I am thinking banana and dates with perhaps some chocolate almond milk? I like to add some coconut sugar for good measure. I don't know what it is with me and coconut sugar, as I seem to really be loving and appreciating it.

And speaking of coconut sugar, I do have to go grocery shopping after work today. I really love the fruit and vegetable stands here in Idaho. Everything is modestly fresh and organic. The prices are exceptionally good. I have lived all over yet I find myself appreciating this. One thing about Idaho that I find fascinating is the fact that it is hotter in the evening than the late morning/early afternoon. I think it is the only state I have ever been in that is like this. Perhaps this is why so many grow crops (potatoes and onions more than anything else) here.

For work today, I am wearing a simple mustard, gold colored v-neck shirt with a black belt and black pencil skirt. The shirt (which is visible) is from J.Crew. As you can kind of tell in my selfie today. The skirt is from BCBGMaxAzria (which is non-visible from the selfie) and the belt I bought from Forever 21

In terms of beauty products, I am very much obsessed with the Giorgio Armani Beauty Armani Prima Glow-On Moisturizing Face Balm, LORAC POREfection Foundation, By Terry Paris Ombre Blackstar Cream Eyeshadow Pen in Bronze Moon (No. 4), Benefit Cosmetics goof proof eyebrow pencil, and Kylie Cosmetics Matte Liquid Lipstick in Libra. I love more things, but I only have a few minutes. I want to also add that I am currently obsessed with the Goutal Paris Rose Pompon Parfum. I own an array of perfumes yet I find myself reaching for this one the most. The fragrance is one of the best things you will ever smell in your life. I'll create a beauty favorites and share what I love for the month.

Anyways, I am off. Off to work that is. Have a wonderful day!

I love Sumit so so much

Today I decided to surprise Sumit with these selfies. I took the initiative of professing my love to him by writing on my hand. And in case you are wondering, I did not use a sharpie to write this, I used a felt tip eyeliner pen. In fact, I used the Eyeko 'Eye Do' Liquid Eyeliner to write the message on my hand and I filled the heart in with the Too Faced Sketch Marker Liquid Art Eyeliner in Canary Yellow.

Sumit is the new man in my life, as I met him in mid-to-late April. We just started seeing each other. I have been very happy in my life and I owe a lot of my happiness to him. He's going through a tough time in life, but in the end he is a real warrior so good, great and amazing things will be waiting for him. Every time I talk to Sumit, I feel a sense of true contentment and I am so extremely satisfied with my life, as a result. He is definitely someone who both inspires and motivates me. And for that, I am genuinely grateful.

Today I decided to really look at my life and dissect everything. Instead of looking at my life one-dimensionally, I decided to really look at it fully. What do I love? What do I hate? What can I change? What can I rearrange? Is it ok? Does it slay? I've come to realization that it is pointless to overthink, as any type of rumination (and ruination) will not solve the problem, but rather amplify it. And sometimes this kind of mindset can create problems that simply do not exist. The world can be a dark place, but if we bring ourselves into the light, we can shine in spite of any darkness that attempts to delude us. Today, I realize this more than ever and I am happy about it.

On another note, I have decided to reinvent this blog to feature an array of topics and not just commentary. So, I want let you know that most of the makeup I used in my selfies today are from Giorgio Armani Beauty, Urban Decay and LORAC. I also used Benefit Cosmetics. If you want to know specifics or have any beauty related questions, feel free to ask in the comments or reach out via contact form here.

And Sumit, if you are reading this - I love you!

Just got home from a long day

I just got home from a very long day. All work and no play. It is Wednesday yet feels like a Thursday and I have to wait two days for it to be Friday. I know I haven't been posting much on this blog, as I have been busy beyond belief with my life, but I promise you will hear from me sporadically until I have more time. So much has happened in my life and although I have so much I want to say, it would probably take forever to cover everything.

As many of you already know, I live in Idaho (Meridian) and have been here for several years now. Not only do I have family that lives nearby, but I felt an immediate connection when I first visited hence why I decided to pack my bags from Bozeman and make the 10+ hour move via drive. Idaho is quite possibly the most underrated state, as it embodies an organic ardor of fields. Some areas are flatter than others, but everywhere you look you see endless fruits and vegetables growing.

What really caught my attention aside from the potato fields were the endless fields of onions and how the scent of onion managed to penetrate through the air, making an entire area within a 30 mile radius smell like fresh onion rings. Needless to say, the smell use to bother me when I first moved here, but now I appreciate it more than ever. And every time you travel through this glorious state you are met with many wonderful Spanish speaking people who sell fresh, organic produce right from their rust fruit stands.

When I first moved here, I felt motivated to grow things. Everything from herbs to vegetables to fruits to flowers to even grass and more. And it is because of living here in Idaho I have garnered a huge love and appreciation for gardening. Time is virtuous and I feel like time is never wasted when growing something. With Earth Day just around the corner, I feel compelled to put some of the wonderful things into the ground. After all, the earth is filled with life.
Today I am incredibly exhausted and just want to have a nice shower, eat a nice dinner and dive into my bed freely without any thought of anything. I thought about binge watching Breaking Bad reruns, but I am just way too tired this evening and can only think about sleep. Have you ever had a day where all you wanted to do was just sleep? That's how I feel today. And besides, tomorrow is a brand new day.

Just a quick selfie before I go out tonight

Just a quick selfie before I go to the local wine tasting event this evening. A good friend of mine invited me and insisted that I attend. I haven't seen her in a year, so I am looking forward to going. Did I mention that I am so happy it is Friday? #TGIF I don't usually drink (or at least a lot), but I could really use a glass of Moscato d'Asti right now with a wedge of formage brie.

It has been a while since I have been to any wine tasting event and to be quite frank, I do miss it as they can be fun. Kind of a more refined rendition of a traditional tap takeover with a twist. Anyways, in terms of wine, I'm usually a fan of sweeter wines such as Moscato d'Asti, Tokaji Azsú, Sauternes, Lambrusco, Ice Wine, etc. but can appreciate some of the bitter ones too such as Bordeaux and Burgundy once in a while. Sparkling wines seems to be my choice of port, but sometimes the smoother wines really bring an acquired taste to the palate. Especially when paired with the right food.

I can appreciate dry wines such as Bordeaux, Cabernet Franc and even a fine Burgundy, but to be honest, they are not my first choice. Of course I am not a connoisseur (like I use to be, that is), so more than likely I just haven't tried the right one. My least favorite is Pinot Grigio if I were to choose the one I would unlikely consume tonight.

Now if you ask me to choose between red and white, I honestly cannot choose as some of my favorite wines have been both. Red wine (in moderation, that is) seems to be the healthiest and loaded with an array of antioxidants which is always a plus and a good thing. Rose wine can also be good. Did I mention that I love pink moscato?

But the question remains, what are my favorite wines? To be honest, I love quite a few right now. They include:

-Mascota Vineyards Unanime (the 2013 bottle is the best I have tried)
-Chanteau D'Yquem Sauternes (the 2010 bottle is my favorite)
-Foss Marai Moscato Dolce Reale
-Caposaldo Sweet Peach Sparkling Moscato
-Moet & Chandon Ice Imperial
-Neige Apple Ice Wine
-Barefoot Bubbly Pink Moscato
-Riunite Lambrusco

Tonight I decided to wear a simple blue, v-neck shirt with a belt and matching pencil skirt. It's starting to get warm, so I don't think I will need a jacket. I may take a shawl or even a light hoodie in case it gets cold. My makeup is dramatic yet wearable (as you can see from today's selfie), as my hair is pulled back in light headband. Most of my makeup today is Giorgio Armani Beauty, but if you have any questions on specifics you can ask me in the comments.

If you are filled with knowledge about wine, please do not hesitate to share in the comments. I do read about wine from time-to-time, but I feel like some of the content I read is one dimensional and really doesn't provide me with universal knowledge and accuracy of wines. I think that is a reason to both love and hate non-fiction content on the internet. Everyone is different as everyone has a different point-of-view, so therefore the commentary is different too.

Anyways, I hope you are having an amazing day, afternoon, evening or night depending on where you are in this crazy world, as I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I hope you will enjoy your Friday as I plan to enjoy mine.

Norooz 2018: Sale No Mobarak

As many of you know, I am Iranian American. As I am quite proud of my Persian heritage and culture, I love to celebrate the Persian New Year (Norooz) every year.

Well tomorrow is Norooz As the most highly anticipated holiday of the year, Norooz is a holiday that equalizes both night and day, bringing you more than just a new dawn and a new life, but a new day. In fact, the Persian word "Nowruz" means new day. As the first day of Farvardin, it is also the first day of the March equinox and the first day of the Iranian Solar calendar.

To celebrate the holiday, Spring cleaning is essential as it symbolizes a "rebirth" of your environment. And for the Persian New Year, a "Haft Sin" table is set up which consists of Sabze, Samanu, Senjed, Serke, Sib, Sir, and Somaq. The items all include some sort of plant and/or food to represent them, which correlate with the planets in our universe.

Sabze includes grains such as barley, wheat, or lentil sprouts grown in a pot or a dish. The Samanu utilizes sweet pudding (usually made with wheat germ). Senjed is represented with olives, usually Persian olives. Serke uses vinegar. When it comes to representing Sib, apples are used. Sir is represented by garlic. And last, but not least the Somaq uses sumac.

And for every Persian New Year, this is the kind of things you will see on a traditional haft-sin table. Other things you will see on the table include: a living gold fish in a bowl, candles, a mirror, colored eggs, hyacinth, and other random decorations. Creativity is usually embraced, as not every haft-sin table looks the same nor are they created equal. A book of faith (some refer to this as a book of wisdom) is also added. As most Iranians are Muslim and embrace Islam, there are many (like myself) that are not Muslim, so I would not include a Quran at my haft-sin table.

Various food is prepared, primarily Persian dishes. Each day there is a new dish, as several are prepared per day. As most are non-vegetarian, I usually create these dishes using a plant-based alternative or if I am eating dinner with family, I request a vegetarian alternative to the dish. Most of the Persian sweets or desserts are vegetarian. When I am not eating baklava, consuming Persian tea, I love to enjoy dolma stuffed with rice and veggies, kuku sabzi (an amazing vegetarian-friendly Persian dish which utilizes various herbs and veggies), and sabzi polow (rice cooked with an variety of herbs as well as, noodles). Most of the time sabzi polow is served with fish, but I eat it alone or with Gardein's fishless filets.

I am looking forward to celebrating Norooz this year with family and friends. It is a time to both reminisce and relax. Although many enjoy celebrating before the holiday, the holiday continues days after. Enjoying great Persian food with Persian music and laughter, there is just nothing better.

Happy Norooz! Sale no mobarak! نوروزتان مبارک! من بهترین ها را برای شما آرزو می کنم!
