Nestled in the heart of Idaho, the Boise Fry Company stands as a testament to the versatility and creativity that can be found in a humble fry. My recent visit was a fun yet casual culinary experience, showcasing a menu that celebrates the potato in all its glorious forms. While the food was undeniably satisfying, I did find myself yearning for a touch more crispiness in the fries. Nevertheless, the concept of selecting from an array of potatoes and fry styles was a captivating journey for the palate.
The menu offers an impressive selection of potatoes, allowing diners to choose from red, russet, gold, sweet, and even purple varieties. This thoughtful approach elevates the fry experience, inviting patrons to explore the unique flavors and textures each potato brings to the table. The fry styles are equally diverse, featuring regular cut, homestyle, curly, shoestring, and the delightful po’ball fries, reminiscent of tater tots. Each option presents a different interpretation of the classic fry, catering to a range of preferences.
One of the standout features of the Boise Fry Company is their in-house crafted salt blends and condiments. I was particularly enamored with the blueberry ketchup—a revelation that was both sweet and savory, creating an addictive pairing with the fries. While the fry sauce was commendable, it paled in comparison to the vibrant allure of the blueberry ketchup. The spicy ranch also made a strong impression, but it was clear that the blueberry ketchup was the star of the show.
The burger offerings were equally impressive. I opted for the classic veggie burger, which struck a harmonious balance—not overly large, yet substantial enough to satisfy. Its robust flavors complemented the fries beautifully, making for a well-rounded meal.
The ambience of the Boise Fry Company is simple and unpretentious, evoking a sense of bare nostalgia that is difficult to articulate. Nothing special is probably the best way of describing it yet not chaotic. During my visit, the space was notably quiet, with no other diners present, which lent a relaxed atmosphere to the experience.
I did order the potato salad, but found it somewhat lackluster and bland. While it wasn’t the worst potato salad I’ve ever ate and tried, it certainly didn’t leave a lasting impression.
With that said, I wholeheartedly recommend the Boise Fry Company for anyone seeking a unique fry-centric dining experience. The variety of potato options, the addictive blueberry ketchup, and the flavorful burgers make it a destination worth revisiting. I look forward to returning for another exploration of their fry offerings and indulging in that unforgettable condiment once more.
