Robinhood Investing App

Robinhood is on a mission. A mission to make money readily available and to democratize the entire financial system. Originally, when I first heard about this app, I was actually playing one of my favorite online games and the advertisement popped up. I decided to read about this app shortly after and what I found were relatively mixed reviews. As reluctant as I was to join, I finally caved after I saw that they advertised free stock for signing up.

Upon joining, I realized that all of the stock was 100% commission-free, which is generally another plus to this application. After all, I have been searching for a platform to trade and the fact that every single stock was commission-free definitely did catch my attention. Robinhood supports stocks, options, and exchange-traded funds (or ETF) and crypto-currency with no fees.

I claimed my free stock immediately after downloading the app and signing up. Although the free stock wasn't to Berkshire Hathaway, Google, Apple, or Amazon, it was to an integrated manufacturer called Tronox (TROX) which produces titanium dioxide pigments. The index seems to have a lot of momentum, so I have no complaints thus far. One of my friends was lucky enough to get Apple as her free stock. Another received Berkshire Hathaway.

Moving right along, there is no account minimum, which is great for those novice traders just starting. If you are not the biggest risk taker or a bit hesitant to invest money into the stock market, this app makes it easy for you to do so. Now if you open a gold account with this platform there is a $2,000 minimum. There are zero fees for inactivity and transferring money.

The streamlined interface is very user friendly, making navigation modestly easy. I love this and I love the fact it changes color when the market is open versus the market being closed. It is convenient for mobile users, especially those of you who spend a lot of time on the go and want to make an extra yet honest income right from your smartphone device.

What are the downfalls?

As much as I like Robinhood, it is a platform that doesn't support a lot of companies. Especially international companies. So if you are looking to buy, sell, or hold stock in a company like Banknifty in India, you will not find it here as it is simply not supported. They do support over 250 and possibly will support more in the future, as one can only hope.

Another thing I dislike about Robinhood is the fact that the commodities are relatively limited, as a quick search of a specific one lead me to multiple searches of irrelevant companies that only support and/or produce the specific commodity.

One of the biggest cons of this app is that if you are a novice trader and you are investing only $100, you will not be able to get that money unless you pay the $75 fee. It is best to have a heavy margin simply because the fee can just come out of it. If you invest $100, you will only $25 of that money if you try to take it out.

Additionally, retirement funds such as 401(k) and IRA are not supported here; however, if you have a taxable account you are in luck. Robinhood also does not support any mutual funds and bonds. In fact, the securities are very limited here.

Why Robinhood is a great app...

Overall, the cons are easy to ignore, as the strengths of this app outweigh them. There are no gimmicks and hidden fees. Usually with investing, there are quite a few hidden fees that follow. With Robinhood--what you see is what you get. You can trade without worrying what fees you have to pay. That is what makes Robinhood truly a great app. An app I would recommend to anyone looking to invest money and start trading.

A Brooklyn Brownstone

So it is Sunday. Today, I must get back into the grind of things and prepare for my daily 9-to-5 work week ahead. In spite of being depressed and sad all Friday, my Saturday and Sunday truly made up for it. I spent the entire weekend visiting a friend of mine who I met when I lived in Montana. She is going through a tough time in life, so it was good to catch up.

I really love to play the mobile app Design Home. Created by Crowdstar, It allows me to embrace my inner interior decorator, although I must say that my strengths in interior design are much better offline than online. Does that make sense?

Anyways, the theme is "A Brooklyn Brownstone" and for this particular live challenge, I took it upon myself to utilize light blue, aqua, beige, and champagne gold. The items I used in this challenge include: West Elm Antonella Sofa, Kathy Kuo Home Amanda Leather Upholstered Gold Finished Chair, Kathy Kuo Home John Richard Modern Silver Champagne Giraffe Print Bench, Phillips Collection Crystal Coffee Table, Kathy Kuo Home John Richard Montego Grey Frame Sideboard, Wisteria Sandblasted French Country Chest, and Apt2B Martina Del Rey Round Pouf.

The rug I used in this challenge is from the Loloi Anastasia Collection in Blue Mist. Additionally, I utilized the Coastal Floor Sea Orbs in this challenge to give it color which kind of accented the rug. I also used the white roses in the porcelain vase twice along with the Carved Leaves Duo paintings. To finish the 'A Brooklyn Brownstone' challenge, I used a Fiddle Leaf Tree as it was earthy yet brought the entire room together.

Update: I just checked my score and I received a 5-star rating for this challenge. Lately, I haven't been getting a lot of great scores, so it is nice to see others notice the effort I made. In spite of being digital, I did earn and purchase the items I used to compliment this particular design.

204 point word on Words with Friends

That moment you get a 204 point word on Words with Friends. When playing the challenge today, I played the word "develop" for 204 points, utilizing both the triple word options on the very top row.

In case you have never played this particular app, the "TW" stands for triple word and will triple your score. Using this is probably the best way to win the game if you cannot use all of your letters. I have been playing this game for years and I think the highest word I ever played was 120 points.

Today, I made history by playing this word. I was able to cover both of the triple word options on the top row, while connecting the "O" with the already played word "ne" to create "one" and "P" for the already played word "en" to create "pen".

I can only imagine if I had letters like "Z" or "J" or one that is 10 points alone. Maybe next time, as one can only hope.

The ultimate dynamic duo of PUBG

The end result of
the PUBG duo match I just played.
I am starting to really love and appreciate PUBG Mobile. Not only is it engaging, but I feel like I am getting a life lesson in navigation, which is essential when playing any kind of strategic action game. I would say this is my best game; however, due to lack of kills, it is not. I still really enjoy PUBG.
I decided to get on my phone and play with my friend Billy Housh in a duo match. And for those of you who do not know, Billy and I have been friends for over 10 years. He is known for his comedic videos on YouTube as well as his live streams (mainly gaming) via Twitch.

The duo match was held in the Erangel map where we both played the game via Classic TPP (Third-Person mode). We decided to play the Asia server, which had a relatively high ping number (and for those of you who are unaware, this equals extreme lag) but was fun nevertheless.

For not killing anyone, I still managed to receive 1,234 BP. I also gained 551 in experience. My total rating was +55, with most of the points being from survival where I garnered +53 points. I received a +7 kill rating for not killing anyone. I think that is excellent for not killing anyone.

The final player (LucTienSinh from China) ended up dying in the actual kill zone (out of the circle) so we ended up winning the famous chicken dinner at the end of the game, making us the winners of this particular match.

Words with Friends Lightening Round

Tonight, I found myself really wanting to play the Lightening Round on Words with Friends. It is basically a modern version of Boggle meets Scrabble, except you play on two designated teams - the purple team and the blue team. You have to basically have to come up with great words and whichever team reaches 750 (or more) points first, wins the match.

I am feeling a little under the weather, as my boyfriend is also sick. We have the cold/cough thing that is going around. We both were talking and I found myself playing this app a lot while talking to him and actually winning virtually every single match I played. I am not sure why I play better when I am not feeling good. Perhaps this kind of escapism allows me to forget how horrible I am feeling.

I ended up achieving the top reward for the most words, for words with the most points and for the longest point word. In this particular match, I garnered 315 points, making me the top player of this game and winning for the purple team.

Currently, there are no prizes. You don't really win any incentives for playing, but it is so much fun and if you love word games, you will love this one. I do believe I heard something about them holding contests, but there is no proof of this. I am also hearing rumors about Words with Friends Live, which is allegedly the platform they will be holding these contests; however, this is hearsay at this point.

Alice Chang CEO of Perfect Corp talks YouCam Perfect and YouCam Makeup

Alice Chang, the CEO of Perfect Corp.
Two of the hottest beauty apps on the planet are YouCam Makeup and YouCam Perfect. As these two amazing additions to Perfect Corp are taking the interweb by storm, these apps serve a purpose in the world of beauty. Perfect Corp recently added two additional apps into the mix - YouCam Nails and Beauty Circle. Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with the CEO of Perfect Corp, Alice Chang. Here is what she had to tell me...

(Q) First and foremost, thank you so much for speaking with me today. I just want to say that I absolutely love the YouCam Perfect and YouCam Makeup apps. For those beauty lovers that are unaware of these two apps, can you explain the difference between them?

Tools cover wide range going from skin tone adjustments to teeth whitening to eye-bag removals. Our platform also includes recently released Beauty Circle, our interactive content and social destination for all things beauty, fashion and style, and YouCam Nails, a mobile manicure solution.

(Q) That is amazing. Ok, if someone were to ask - Alice, what makes YouCam Perfect and YouCam Makeup any different from the apps currently out there, what would you say?

A.C: Our apps make experimenting with makeup and beauty exciting, accessible and tangible. With YouCam Makeup’s highly accurate facial recognition technology, users can have the most true-to-life makeup experience imaginable. Our live Makeup Cam leaves our users surprised and amazed as the style moves with their face when they smile and strike poses. YouCam Makeup and YouCam Perfect also remove the barrier of product trials, and the risk of purchasing makeup you will never use, making the extensive variety of products on the market within reach of anyone with a mobile device. Our apps provide the most extensive collection of beauty, makeup, and fashion accessories available in a single download. Our beauty ecosystem, cemented by our interactive beauty platform, Beauty Circle, brings tremendous value to end-users, but also to beauty brands and publishers.

(Q) I love that you are constantly evolving. It is quite impressive. For Valentine’s Day you introduced a collection of romantic new looks to the YouCam Makeup app.

A.C: Our goal is to constantly introduce new and relevant products, looks and content into our apps, for our users to experience the latest trends. Campaigns like our Valentine’s Day ‘Looks to Love’ contest play a significant role. Our campaigns tell unique stories introducing styles tailored to a variety of personalities. This romance-inspired collection of complete makeup looks presents an innovative new way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. It reminds us that love can be an empowering and beautiful part of our life regardless of our relationship status.

(Q) YouCam Nails is definitely an amazing app. Can you tell me more about it?

A.C: YouCam Nails was a natural next step in our stylish family of beauty apps. It is a mobile nail artist that brings hundreds of colors and stunning styles to our users fingertips. They can use the app to easily try or create nail designs with hundreds of fabulous colors, patterns, and decals. Soon users will be able to try out their favorite brand’s product offerings in the app as well.

(Q) Is it true you have a social media type of app for beauty lovers around the world? Tell me a little more about the Beauty Circle...

A.C: Beauty Circle is a unique interactive beauty platform for fashionistas, brands, and publications delivered via a mobile app and website, and is also built into YouCam Makeup, YouCam Perfect and YouCam Nails. As a news, trends and social destination for beauty, fashion, and style, Beauty Circle has quickly grown to become an interactive community where users can access everything from daily fashion news to tutorials and virtual makeup looks, and exchange ideas about beauty and fashion.

Beauty Circle empowers users to discover and refine their personal style, and share their own ideas and creations. It is the essential interactive news and social complement to our YouCam family of beauty apps. It is poised to become the go-to beauty destination for intelligent, stylish women looking for inspiring ideas and stimulating conversations. The platform includes content from top publishers such as InStyle, and PureWow amongst others. Publications and brands can use Beauty Circle to interact with consumers and share content and the latest info on products or trends.

(Q) What are you most excited about in 2016?

A.C: As we continue to grow and build Perfect Corp., we will welcome several new cosmetic brands, publications, celebrities, beauty artists and bloggers to Beauty Circle, our interactive beauty platform. Combined to the sustained flow of new user, we will see the full power of our apps come to fruition. For example, one of the most unique aspects of our platform is the database of original content, styles and opinions from our highly creative users. We adore this content and want to showcase it front and center in our vibrant beauty community. The latest release, ‘Look Salon’ provides a channel where our user content will be prominently positioned for everyone to interact with and explore.

As part of our drive to stay on the pulse of beauty, we just released our first issue of ‘Beauty Buzz’, the first interactive big data makeup color ranking in the industry. Analyzing the preferences from millions of YouCam Makeup app users, Perfect’s Beauty Buzz ranks the most popular makeup colors that users can then try on their selfies in one click. Our inaugural issue revealed the most popular lipstick colors in the U.S. from the holiday season. The Perfect Corp. apps are just the beginning of the new era of beauty, and we are excited to continue our evolution in 2016. We will continue to expand our suite of offerings to meet the ever-growing demand of a passionate audience of beauty lovers hungry for rich tools and content.

(Q) That is fantastic. For those beauty enthusiasts and app editing lovers reading this interview, what would you like them to know? What is next for Perfect Corp?

A.C: Perfect Corp was born out of our desire to apply leading technological expertise to the beauty industry and transform beauty lovers’ experience. With my background in the software IT industry - a typically male dominated space - I wanted to find a way to fuse technology with beauty and fashion. Perfect Corp. gives people the tools to express themselves with makeup, and connects virtual creations to real world fashion.

This personalization of beauty and beauty through technology allows women like me to explore and develop our own style. In 2016 and beyond, we will be there to drive the transformation of the beauty industry. We will continue to build the ultimate platform where brands, publications, industry gurus and users can meet and interact, both in the virtual and real world.
