First Day of Spring 2019

Me today.
Today is officially the first day of Spring. It is hard to believe, as it seems like only yesterday we walked into Winter. Today is also Norooz, the Persian New Year. Is it bad to say that all I can think about is sleeping, eating and gardening? Perhaps, this is just Spring's effect on me considering I have been busy working 9-to-5, Monday through Friday for the last four years.

I just looked outside and there isn't an inch of snow on the ground. Not even a fraction of an inch. It is sunny and beautiful outside. Not hot at all and definitely not too cold. Although flowers aren't really blooming, my chocolate mint bush seems to be making an appearance. I'm also noticing the tulips in my yard, but everything else seems to be non existent at this point.

Time is virtuous, as time is relative but it flies by so fast. Sometimes I wonder if I can get everything I want to done in a 24 hour period. Perhaps I am persistent or impatient, but either way I am content with the way my life is going. Nothing bad has happened yet this year and I am hoping and praying it stays this way.

I want to also share that I just took the selfie I am sharing with this blog post using my LuMee case I got for Christmas. I now own 5 of these cases. They are the best especially for taking pictures up close. If you don't own one, you need one. As much as I love the factory camera that comes with my iPhone, this case will enhance your photos naturally. You don't have to edit them, as it naturally edits them. I love it.

After work, I have to make a quick trip to Whole Foods to buy some Gardein Mini Crabless Cakes. I also want to pick up somethings to make homemade vodka tomato sauce. I have been finding myself in the kitchen at home a lot more lately, as I don't find any urge to eat out anymore. I just enjoy the comfort of not having to travel let alone spend a fortune for something I can make as good, if not better at home. Know what I mean?

Well, I am going to make a smoothie, talk to Sumit for a few and then, go to work. Have a wonderful day everyone!

Valentine's Day 2019 Makeup Look

Me today. Celebrating the day of love.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Love is in the air, as I can admit that I am very much in love with my amazing boyfriend and happy it is Valentine's Day. I woke up in a wonderful mood and decided to create a dramatic yet fun makeup look to complement my mood today.

Utilizing pink and fuchsia, I wanted to create a look that would complement my fuchsia ruched-style dress, which I got from Hot Miami Styles a few years ago and am wearing for the first time today. Yes, I bought the dress back in 2016 and left the tags on until 2019.

So, is it possible to re-create my makeup look? Absolutely. I will share now.

First and foremost, I prepped my skin. I like to have a very smooth finish especially this time of year because my skin tends to be the driest during the Winter time. I decided to apply the Giorgio Armani Beauty Armani Prima Glow-On Moisturizing Balm as it is one of the greatest products that has ever touched my face. This is the perfect product if your skin is dehydrated or looking for that much needed yet perfect pick me up. After applying this product, I applied the erborian High Definition Radiance CC Crème. It is currently my favorite beauty balm product and works great to protect, prevent and even repair my skin. I love to apply this before I apply any makeup because it produces a beautiful finish and prepares my skin in a fantastic way.

As I continued with this look, I applied the Japonesque Radiance Primer, as it is one of my favorites, if not my favorite primer at the moment. I love applying primer with my beautyblender because it doesn't waste product and still applies everything flawlessly. My hand also works, but today I just want to use my favorite makeup sponge. Also to prep the skin, I love using the MAC Prep+Prime Fix+ as it is my favorite makeup setting spray and works amazing when you spray it before and after you apply color cosmetics.

For the face, I went with the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in the shade Honey followed by the Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation in the shade 4.5. My skin tone is a light medium, unless I decide to go tanning or I am vacationing in the Maldives and find myself achieving a darker glow. To set the foundation, I went with the Mehron Pro-HD Mineral Finishing Powder in the shade Medium. Contouring is something I love to do. I did light contouring here using the KIKO Milano Sculpting Touch Contour Stick. As I have quite a few favorite contouring mediums, this is definitely a favorite right now. To highlight, I used the Mehron Highlight Pro 3 Color Palette in Cool. I didn't use any blush for this look.

As I continued, I decided to do my eyebrows. I used the Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil in the shade 04 - medium. It is literally the best eyebrow product I have used in years. I am a big fan of their brow products, as they give Anastasia of Beverly Hills a run for their money. To prime the lid, I went with the Smashbox 24 Hour Shadow Primer. As much as I enjoy others, this is one of the best I have used.

Using a standard eye shadow brush, I decided to use several shades to create this look. The first shade I used was the deep pink fuchsia shade in the Ciate London Fearless Palette. Then, I applied the Urban Decay shade "shade" from the Urban Decay Backtalk Palette. I went with the shade Hot Pink from the Mehron intense Pro Palette in Fire mixed with Kylie Cosmetics Eye shadow in the shade Bible which created a very unique fuchsia shade on my lid. As a highlight I used the Ellis Faas Lights in E301 Antique Silver and the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Highlighter in Monarch. I lightly lined the bottom part of my eye with "Shade" from Urban Decay and "Bible" from Kylie Cosmetics.

For my lashes I just applied some lash primer courtesy of Lancôme. The Lancôme Cils Booster XL to be exact. It is almost gone, so I am going to have to either get more or buy another one from a different brand. If you have any suggestions, please do let me know in the comments section. After applying this, I decided to use several coats of the Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Lash Mascara in the color black. I didn't use any eyeliner for this look, but went very bold with color and mascara.
To finish the look, I decided to go with the Ellis Faas Creamy Lips in L104 Deep Fuchsia mixed with Giorgio Armani Beauty Lip Maestro in the shade 512 Drama Nude. I topped the lips with the Stila Glitter & Glow Liquid Highlighter in Monarch.

Congratulations! You have just re-created by 2019 Valentine's Day makeup look. Happy Valentine's Day!

I love Sumit so so much

Today I decided to surprise Sumit with these selfies. I took the initiative of professing my love to him by writing on my hand. And in case you are wondering, I did not use a sharpie to write this, I used a felt tip eyeliner pen. In fact, I used the Eyeko 'Eye Do' Liquid Eyeliner to write the message on my hand and I filled the heart in with the Too Faced Sketch Marker Liquid Art Eyeliner in Canary Yellow.

Sumit is the new man in my life, as I met him in mid-to-late April. We just started seeing each other. I have been very happy in my life and I owe a lot of my happiness to him. He's going through a tough time in life, but in the end he is a real warrior so good, great and amazing things will be waiting for him. Every time I talk to Sumit, I feel a sense of true contentment and I am so extremely satisfied with my life, as a result. He is definitely someone who both inspires and motivates me. And for that, I am genuinely grateful.

Today I decided to really look at my life and dissect everything. Instead of looking at my life one-dimensionally, I decided to really look at it fully. What do I love? What do I hate? What can I change? What can I rearrange? Is it ok? Does it slay? I've come to realization that it is pointless to overthink, as any type of rumination (and ruination) will not solve the problem, but rather amplify it. And sometimes this kind of mindset can create problems that simply do not exist. The world can be a dark place, but if we bring ourselves into the light, we can shine in spite of any darkness that attempts to delude us. Today, I realize this more than ever and I am happy about it.

On another note, I have decided to reinvent this blog to feature an array of topics and not just commentary. So, I want let you know that most of the makeup I used in my selfies today are from Giorgio Armani Beauty, Urban Decay and LORAC. I also used Benefit Cosmetics. If you want to know specifics or have any beauty related questions, feel free to ask in the comments or reach out via contact form here.

And Sumit, if you are reading this - I love you!

Just got home from a long day

I just got home from a very long day. All work and no play. It is Wednesday yet feels like a Thursday and I have to wait two days for it to be Friday. I know I haven't been posting much on this blog, as I have been busy beyond belief with my life, but I promise you will hear from me sporadically until I have more time. So much has happened in my life and although I have so much I want to say, it would probably take forever to cover everything.

As many of you already know, I live in Idaho (Meridian) and have been here for several years now. Not only do I have family that lives nearby, but I felt an immediate connection when I first visited hence why I decided to pack my bags from Bozeman and make the 10+ hour move via drive. Idaho is quite possibly the most underrated state, as it embodies an organic ardor of fields. Some areas are flatter than others, but everywhere you look you see endless fruits and vegetables growing.

What really caught my attention aside from the potato fields were the endless fields of onions and how the scent of onion managed to penetrate through the air, making an entire area within a 30 mile radius smell like fresh onion rings. Needless to say, the smell use to bother me when I first moved here, but now I appreciate it more than ever. And every time you travel through this glorious state you are met with many wonderful Spanish speaking people who sell fresh, organic produce right from their rust fruit stands.

When I first moved here, I felt motivated to grow things. Everything from herbs to vegetables to fruits to flowers to even grass and more. And it is because of living here in Idaho I have garnered a huge love and appreciation for gardening. Time is virtuous and I feel like time is never wasted when growing something. With Earth Day just around the corner, I feel compelled to put some of the wonderful things into the ground. After all, the earth is filled with life.
Today I am incredibly exhausted and just want to have a nice shower, eat a nice dinner and dive into my bed freely without any thought of anything. I thought about binge watching Breaking Bad reruns, but I am just way too tired this evening and can only think about sleep. Have you ever had a day where all you wanted to do was just sleep? That's how I feel today. And besides, tomorrow is a brand new day.

Just a quick selfie before I go out tonight

Just a quick selfie before I go to the local wine tasting event this evening. A good friend of mine invited me and insisted that I attend. I haven't seen her in a year, so I am looking forward to going. Did I mention that I am so happy it is Friday? #TGIF I don't usually drink (or at least a lot), but I could really use a glass of Moscato d'Asti right now with a wedge of formage brie.

It has been a while since I have been to any wine tasting event and to be quite frank, I do miss it as they can be fun. Kind of a more refined rendition of a traditional tap takeover with a twist. Anyways, in terms of wine, I'm usually a fan of sweeter wines such as Moscato d'Asti, Tokaji Azsú, Sauternes, Lambrusco, Ice Wine, etc. but can appreciate some of the bitter ones too such as Bordeaux and Burgundy once in a while. Sparkling wines seems to be my choice of port, but sometimes the smoother wines really bring an acquired taste to the palate. Especially when paired with the right food.

I can appreciate dry wines such as Bordeaux, Cabernet Franc and even a fine Burgundy, but to be honest, they are not my first choice. Of course I am not a connoisseur (like I use to be, that is), so more than likely I just haven't tried the right one. My least favorite is Pinot Grigio if I were to choose the one I would unlikely consume tonight.

Now if you ask me to choose between red and white, I honestly cannot choose as some of my favorite wines have been both. Red wine (in moderation, that is) seems to be the healthiest and loaded with an array of antioxidants which is always a plus and a good thing. Rose wine can also be good. Did I mention that I love pink moscato?

But the question remains, what are my favorite wines? To be honest, I love quite a few right now. They include:

-Mascota Vineyards Unanime (the 2013 bottle is the best I have tried)
-Chanteau D'Yquem Sauternes (the 2010 bottle is my favorite)
-Foss Marai Moscato Dolce Reale
-Caposaldo Sweet Peach Sparkling Moscato
-Moet & Chandon Ice Imperial
-Neige Apple Ice Wine
-Barefoot Bubbly Pink Moscato
-Riunite Lambrusco

Tonight I decided to wear a simple blue, v-neck shirt with a belt and matching pencil skirt. It's starting to get warm, so I don't think I will need a jacket. I may take a shawl or even a light hoodie in case it gets cold. My makeup is dramatic yet wearable (as you can see from today's selfie), as my hair is pulled back in light headband. Most of my makeup today is Giorgio Armani Beauty, but if you have any questions on specifics you can ask me in the comments.

If you are filled with knowledge about wine, please do not hesitate to share in the comments. I do read about wine from time-to-time, but I feel like some of the content I read is one dimensional and really doesn't provide me with universal knowledge and accuracy of wines. I think that is a reason to both love and hate non-fiction content on the internet. Everyone is different as everyone has a different point-of-view, so therefore the commentary is different too.

Anyways, I hope you are having an amazing day, afternoon, evening or night depending on where you are in this crazy world, as I hope you have a wonderful weekend. I hope you will enjoy your Friday as I plan to enjoy mine.

Norooz 2018: Sale No Mobarak

As many of you know, I am Iranian American. As I am quite proud of my Persian heritage and culture, I love to celebrate the Persian New Year (Norooz) every year.

Well tomorrow is Norooz As the most highly anticipated holiday of the year, Norooz is a holiday that equalizes both night and day, bringing you more than just a new dawn and a new life, but a new day. In fact, the Persian word "Nowruz" means new day. As the first day of Farvardin, it is also the first day of the March equinox and the first day of the Iranian Solar calendar.

To celebrate the holiday, Spring cleaning is essential as it symbolizes a "rebirth" of your environment. And for the Persian New Year, a "Haft Sin" table is set up which consists of Sabze, Samanu, Senjed, Serke, Sib, Sir, and Somaq. The items all include some sort of plant and/or food to represent them, which correlate with the planets in our universe.

Sabze includes grains such as barley, wheat, or lentil sprouts grown in a pot or a dish. The Samanu utilizes sweet pudding (usually made with wheat germ). Senjed is represented with olives, usually Persian olives. Serke uses vinegar. When it comes to representing Sib, apples are used. Sir is represented by garlic. And last, but not least the Somaq uses sumac.

And for every Persian New Year, this is the kind of things you will see on a traditional haft-sin table. Other things you will see on the table include: a living gold fish in a bowl, candles, a mirror, colored eggs, hyacinth, and other random decorations. Creativity is usually embraced, as not every haft-sin table looks the same nor are they created equal. A book of faith (some refer to this as a book of wisdom) is also added. As most Iranians are Muslim and embrace Islam, there are many (like myself) that are not Muslim, so I would not include a Quran at my haft-sin table.

Various food is prepared, primarily Persian dishes. Each day there is a new dish, as several are prepared per day. As most are non-vegetarian, I usually create these dishes using a plant-based alternative or if I am eating dinner with family, I request a vegetarian alternative to the dish. Most of the Persian sweets or desserts are vegetarian. When I am not eating baklava, consuming Persian tea, I love to enjoy dolma stuffed with rice and veggies, kuku sabzi (an amazing vegetarian-friendly Persian dish which utilizes various herbs and veggies), and sabzi polow (rice cooked with an variety of herbs as well as, noodles). Most of the time sabzi polow is served with fish, but I eat it alone or with Gardein's fishless filets.

I am looking forward to celebrating Norooz this year with family and friends. It is a time to both reminisce and relax. Although many enjoy celebrating before the holiday, the holiday continues days after. Enjoying great Persian food with Persian music and laughter, there is just nothing better.

Happy Norooz! Sale no mobarak! نوروزتان مبارک! من بهترین ها را برای شما آرزو می کنم!

Allan Shoemake co-founder of LuMee talks smartphones, selfies and Kim Kardashian

The LuMee case.
LuMee is a revolutionary front-lit smartphone case that is changing the way people take pictures from their phone. It's obvious that everyone wants to be in seen in the perfect lighting and LuMee is the type of innovation that allows you to shine at your brightest. The beautiful and iconic Kim Kardashian West recently shared how much she loved the case saying "I really love my LuMee case so much." Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with Allan Shoemake, the co-founder and partner of the brand. Here is what he had to tell me...

(Q) For those individuals who are unaware of the LuMee case, can you kind of shed some light on what the LuMee case is and what it does? Tell me a little more about the LuMee case...

A.S: Yes. The LuMee Case is the first (and patented) smartphone case to offer front facing lighting. The case has lights around the edges to create perfect lighting for the best picture. Think of a lighted make-up mirror, that bathes the user's face in soft, beautiful, professional quality lighting.

(Q) Behind every great creator, great genius lies a source of inspiration. I have to ask, what inspired you to create the LuMee case?

A.S: I have been a professional photographer for the past 25 years, photographing CEO's, United States Presidents and celebrities, so I understand the importance of great lighting. When my daughter was in her freshman year at NYU in Florence, Italy, we would Skype once a week. Her dorm room offered very little in the way of good lighting, especially in the evening. I thought, why are there no lighting solutions available, especially with so many front facing cameras and laptops. So, I rigged Christmas lights around my laptop and the first LuMee prototype was born! Other colleagues suggested transferring the technology to smart phones and we applied for our patent.

(Q) One thing that I really love about technology is the fact that it evolves faster than most things. Is it true that you really use LED lights in the case?

A.S: So true. We use small high quality LED lights to surround our case with the perfect color balance. This enables us to offer bright lights without the heat or battery drain. And yes, we have a rechargeable battery built into the case so there's no battery drain from the phone itself.

(Q) Selfies really capture the moment and are quite popular right now. How will the LuMee case improve my pictures in terms of resolution and overall quality?

A.S: Yes, indeed. One thing about smartphone cameras was that they produce a lot of noise (multi-colored pixelation) when used in low light situations. The LuMee case solves those problems. It offers a soft lighting and gives you the perfect selfie, or FaceTime or Skype session anywhere, anytime. Also it's great for applying make up on the go or just used as a functional flashlight. Very convenient!

(Q) This case if fantastic for improving pictures, but will the LuMee case protect my phone?

A.S: Thanks so much! Yes, the LuMee case is made out of a tough ABS plastic material and will protect your phone when dropped. We are constantly making improvements to our case to make it even more protective as well. We understand that it needs to be both functional and fashionable.

(Q) Why should one choose the LuMee case?

A.S: One of my pet peeves on social media was all of the bad self images, sometimes wondering, "why even bother posting that poor image?" Then I realized that the folks posting wanted to memorialize their outing or date or get together, or location, they just did not have any way to light themselves. Now, that problem is solved with the LuMee case. At the touch of a button, everyone can now have perfect, beautiful and professionally developed lighting wherever they happen to be.

(Q) For all of those smart phone users and technology junkies (including myself), what would you like them to know? What is next for the LuMee brand?

A.S: I'd like them/you to know that LuMee is not just a great product, but a great and rising Brand. We have partnered with Kim Kardashian West, who understands social media and is a fashion mogul, and Robert Pedersen II, the founder and former CEO of ZAGG, who is now our CEO.

LuMee has a focus on innovation in a perfect way like has not been done before. Look for a great new lineup this year with everything from new designs of our patented LuMee Case, to product breakthroughs and an expanded lineup. You're going to want to stay tuned!

Currently, LuMee offers smartphone cases for the iPhone 5/5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and Samsung Galaxy S6. For more information visit LuMee today.
