8÷2(2+2)

The math problem is 8÷2(2+2) and it seems to be trending all over the place, especially Facebook. Also written as 8/2(2+2), when you enter this problem into a calculator, you will get 16; however, that answer is incorrect. You see, every single time you solve any problem in mathematics, you must follow the Order of Operations. Commonly known as PEMDAS here in the United States (and BEMDAS in other parts of the world) it is crucial to follow this rule and apply it accordingly.

PEMDAS simply stands for Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction. As an easy way to remember this, my teacher in 5th grade use to say "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" which was the way to remember this particular rule. But the question remains, how do you solve this particular problem?

As a mathematical rule, you must do what it is in parenthesis first. 2+2=4. (4) is your answer. There are no exponents, so you can skip this particular step. Now, you must go back to the beginning and apply the multiplication rule. Because the 8÷2 doesn't contain parenthesis, you must take 2(4) which is simply 2x4. Your answer will turn to 8.

Then, going back to the beginning of the problem, you must divide the first 8 into 2x4=8. This will give you one.

8÷2(2+2) is 8÷2(4) = P
No Exponents
8÷2(4) 2x4 = 8 = M
8÷8 = 1 = D
No Addition
No Subtraction

If the problem were written (8÷2)(2+2) your answer would be 16, as any linear problem would be solved, left-to-right. Every time you see a number and a () around another number, this represents multiplication. 2x4=8.

But because there are parenthesis representing only the 2+2, your answer is one.

The final answer is 1.

National Lasagna Day 2019

Lasagna is one of the best dishes to ever come from Italian cuisine. In fact, as one of the oldest pasta dishes in the world, this southern Italian classic has managed to find its way on virtually every single dinner table around the world. Originally created in the 14th century, this holy grail of appetizing aliment was featured in the medieval cookbook Liber de Coquina.

Having only used semolina and water to make the pasta, time has evolved and the ingredients have been changed or more so amplified. Although staying true to the original roots is always ultimately impressive, multiple variations have been created since the time this dish was introduced centuries ago.

Lasagna is one of the most universal pasta dishes, as you can create virtually any kind of variation. Not only can you change the flavor of the pasta, but the sauces, the ingredients and the best part - the cheese. As much as I encourage creativity, it is also crucial to execute the flavors properly because a treasure vision can easily turn drastically into trash if you mess up.

I love to cook lasagna. It is one of my favorite things to make. I love to created a variety of adaptions, as it is very fun to get creative; however, the best lasagna is the classic with tons of tomato sauce, a variety of herbs and tons of cheese. As a vegetarian, I love a lot of cheese, especially with my lasagna.

As you can see from the photos I have shared, this cult-classic Italian staple is one dish I enjoy making. And my favorite variation of this dish includes homemade lasagne noodles, homemade tomato sauce (or as Italians say "gravy"), basil, oregano, thyme, salt, pepper, ricotta cheese, buffalo mozzarella and regular shredded mozzarella. It's as simple as it gets, but what is simple exudes and epitomizes extreme deliciousness.

Does it get any better?

Gilroy Garlic Festival Shooting

The Gilroy Garlic Festival in
Gilroy, California.
For those of you who are unaware, the Gilroy Garlic Festival is a three-day event held every year in Gilroy, California. What started as an idea, became a 40-year old tradition, as the people of Gilroy (and its visitors) pay respects and honor the local garlic industry. In case you are unaware, Gilroy is known for their garlic crops.

Primarily held during late July/early August, this event celebrates garlic. Gilroy is a small town in North California. And with 4,000 volunteers alone and over a hundred vendors and sponsors, the community is as tight-knit as it gets. So, when something like this happens (which is rare) the entire community shuts down to grieve.

I am originally from the Bay area of California where the Gilroy Garlic Festival is held, so when I heard the news regarding this, I was not only sad, but in a panic that one of my family members may have been a victim of this. Naturally I feared for the worst. And although none of my family are victims in this devastating yet unpredictable shooting, I cannot help but be extremely empathetic to those who are victims to such a tragic occurrence.

Santino William Legan is the original shooting suspect; however, a few eyewitnesses claim they saw a second person with him. And as the speculation continues, some of the people who attended this festival believe this person ran off. Legan who is of Italian and Iranian descent, abused his liberties in more ways than one when he used an AK-47 (a Russian assault riffle) to randomly shoot people at the festival yesterday, killing three people.

Additionally, the angry yet scorned shooter managed to take out 12 other people, some who are currently fighting for their life at the local hospital. 6-year old Stephen Romero died immediately, along with 13-year old Keyla Salazar, and 25-year old Trevor Irby.

Today is a day to mourn. Although Legan was immediately shot and killed by the fine policeman of Gilroy, there is no price on a life. Justice may have been served, but the people of this small town in Santa Clara County will remember 7/28/19 forever.

If you are from Gilroy or know someone has visited and has not been in touch with you, please call (408) 846-0583 immediately. You can also call (408) 846-0584.

To celebrate today, I am sharing some of my favorite lipsticks right now. From left-to-right, these amazing gems include:

Amish-style Macaroni and Cheese

Food can be the most incredible thing in the world if it is prepared correctly. Now if it is not, food can be the most revolting thing. I feel like the food I make gives many 5-star restaurants a real, tried and true run for their money. Although I would dub myself as a self taught chef, I am a foodie by nature. As much as I want to say that I have mastered the art of cooking, I still have so much to learn.

Today, I decided to make an Amish-style macaroni and cheese dish. My source of inspiration comes from a phone call I had with my former college roommate. We both got into a discussion about food before agreeing that Amish cuisine is underrated. I lived in Pennsylvania for many years and tried some Amish things, but it wasn't until 2011 where I actually ate at an Amish restaurant and tried virtually everything vegetarian they made.

The macaroni and cheese is unique within its own and really says a lot about not only the dish itself, but Amish cuisine. I used Barilla Elbows, Silk Unsweetened Almond & Coconut Milk Blend, Country Crock Plant Butter with almond oil, 365 Silken Tofu, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, shredded monterey jack cheese and a little bit of salt and black pepper.

Like the traditional Amish-style, I cooked the elbow macaroni on the stove for about 10 minutes. I preheated the oven for 350 degrees.

Then, I built the layers in a separate pan starting with milk, butter and cheese as my base. I started to gradually add the pasta. As I continued, I packed the pasta and continued this entire process until I couldn't add anything else to the pan.

Taking any blender, I decided to blend my tofu with some of the almond and coconut milk until it turned to liquid. Then, I took the liquid result and garnished that on top of the dish before adding the lid and placing it into the oven for 10-15 minutes.

Without further ado, here is my Amish-style Macaroni and Cheese:

I took the liberty of garnishing black pepper on the top, as that always tends to work with any macaroni and cheese, especially this one. And as you can tell from the photos, my Amish-style macaroni and cheese was a success.

Now time to eat.

Just another day, just another Monday

Me today.
Today was a relatively productive day overall, as I managed to get a lot accomplished. It is Monday so I know there are four days left in the work week. I am not going to be doing back flips just yet. I probably shouldn't settle for a life where the most exciting day is Friday, hence why I am modestly content.

On a softer note, I decided to go full orange glam today. I went with orange makeup (or orange eyes) to complement my orange dress.

First and foremost, I prepped and primed my skin. I used the Pixi Beauty Gold Luminous Oil followed by the Pixi Beauty Flawless Beauty Primer. Using a beautyblender, I applied the Rituals Miracle Foundation in the shade Ivory Beige. Then, I applied the Mehron Celebre Pro HD Finishing Powder in the shade Medium. To contour, I used the KKW Beauty Creme Contour Stick in the shades Light/Medium and Medium II. And to highlight I used the Mehron Highlight Pro-3 Palette in the shade Cool.

With the eyes I wanted something dramatic yet wearable. For the eyes, I didn't prime them like usual and went with the Giorgio Armani Beauty Eye Tint Liquid Eyeshadow in the shade 23- Camel Smoke. I didn't want to go crazy, so I decided to use the Shu Uemura Pressed Eyeshadow in the shades Orange 250 and Orange 251. To be honest, the 251 is beautiful but it isn't as pigmented as it could be. Then, I used Kylie Cosmetics Eyeshadow Single in Juicy followed by Fenty Beauty Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter in the shade Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby. I finished my eyes with a few coats of the Eyeko Rock Out & Lash Out Mascara in the shade Beatnik Black. And on my brows I used the Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Eye Pencil in the shade 5.

For my lips, I used the Kylie Cosmetics Lipkit in the shade 22 topped with the limited-edition CoverGirl Star Wars Lipstick in the shade Gold 40 and the Fenty Beauty Cosmic Gloss in the shade Spacesuit.

My dress is from Herve Leger. I wore a jacket with it from Missguided. My necklace is from Nordstrom. My champagne diamond ring is an inherited piece.

In other news, New York officially proved why it is one of the best states in America by banning cat clawing. You can read the article here. Yes, not only will cat clawing be officially banned, but New York is the first state to do this. As a cat lover, I agree with this wholeheartedly and find this to be history in the making.

Additionally today is Pi Approximation Day. If you are a mathematician or simply have an interest and love for mathematics, you will appreciate today. And in case you are unaware Pi basically identifies the relationship between a circle's diameter and circumference. Pi is 3.14 (or 22/7 which is equal to 3.14) and proves its significance in everyday life, as the number if fundamentally ambiguous.

Other great days happening today include: Summer Leisure Day, Lion's Share Day, Spoonerism Day, Hammock Day, and National Penuche Fudge Day. Other observances on July 22, 2019 include: Liberation Day in Guam, Women's Union Day in Laos, and Sarawak Independence Day in Malaysia.

Some of my current beauty favorites that I am loving right now include: Chuda Beauty Everyday Exfoliating Cleanser, Skinceuticals C E Ferulic Serumerborian BB Creme Au Ginseng ClairCle de peau Beaute Radiant Multi-Repair Oil, TRIA Beauty SmoothBeauty Eye Wrinkle Laser, the Puruskin, Enhanced Total Body Derma Roller KitEllis Faas Lights, KKW Beauty Creme Contour Stick, the Olivia Garden Healthy Hair Eco-Friendly Natural Bamboo Large Paddle Brush, and the Qtica Sugar Scrub.

And those non-beauty favorites I am really loving also include: PUBG Mobile, Vita Coco Original Coconut WaterMonster Hydro drink in the flavor Blue Ice (although I must say I haven't tried them all), MuscleTech SX-7 Revolution Pre-Workout in the flavor Icy Rocket Freeze, Country Crock Plant Butter, Tofurky Deli Ham, the Design Home app, Zella activewear, DIY crafts from recycled materials (I love turning trash into treasure), the Bhagavad Gita, cooking anything Indian, watching documentaries about history (especially those with a mystery or and suspense kind of angle), listening to Spotify, Old Town Road, and reading about virtually anything political.

There are 162 days left in 2019 which means, there is a lot of work that needs to be done before we approach 2020. With that said, it is time for me to have a shower now because I want to make dinner in a few. I hope you are having a wonderful day.
