First and foremost, Simkin prepped the star's hair. She started with clean hair which was not only roughly towel-dried, but slightly damp. The celebrity groomer started by applying Baxter of California's Award-Winning Clay Pomade to the reality star turned superstar's hair. Warming up the product between her palms, Simkin started applying a dime-size amount of this product to the back of Malik's head before coating the product.
"If hair is fine, use a blow dryer for some lift. Thick hair can start with damp hair for the same effect," Simkin shared. "It is key to layer the product, as this better than applying too much once," she also added.
Next, Simkin worked her fingers through the star's hair. The beauty of Baxter's of California's Clay Pomade is that once it sets, it isn't too firm so you can create virtually any style you need to.
"If you have random flyways, smooth those with a tiny amount of the pomade," the celebrity groomer shared.
Finally, to complete the hair look, Joanna Simkin applied the Baxter of California Clay Effect Style Spray to hold Zayn Malik's style.
