Album Reviews: Lover by Taylor Swift

Lover by Taylor Swift.
When I first listened to Taylor Swift, I will admit I wasn't much of a big fan; however, I always felt like she was destined to be a big star. As isolated as her vocals are, what I really like about her is her artistry and strong ability to be connect to virtually everything she sings. She is a woman's artist and for that, I respect her.

A lot of you may ask "why didn't you like Taylor Swift when she first came out?" Well, when she first came out, she came out with the song Tim McGraw and I just thought that the song was a bit cheesy. McGraw is a great artist, but to name a song after him and use it as your first single, I didn't understand it. And the song made no sense to me.

It was when I heard the song Love Story from the album Fearless that I knew she was going to be a star. And I was right. Recently, the country crooner released her seventh studio album called Lover on August 23, 2019. Released by Republic Records, Lover includes 18 tracks co-written and co-produced by Swift herself. The album also includes several bonus tracks which are exclusively available to Target.

The songs include: I Forgot That You Existed, Cruel Summer, Lover, The Man, The Archer, I Think He Knows, Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince, Paper Rings, Cornelia Street, Death By A Thousand Cuts, London Boy, Soon You'll Get Better, False God, You Need To Calm Down, Afterglow, ME!, It's Nice To Have A Friend, and Daylight. The bonus tracks exclusively available at Target include: I Forgot That You Existed (piano version) and Lover (piano version).

My favorite songs include: You Need To Calm Down, Daylight, Cruel Summer, Paper Rings, Cornelia Street, Afterglow, Soon You'll Get Better, I Think He Knows, Death By A Thousand Cuts, Daylight, The Archer, and Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince, with Paper Rings being her strongest song. The song is a very fun and exciting uptempo and really proves why Taylor Swift is an artist we can all relate to.

Soon You'll Get Better takes us back to Taylor Swift from the beginning over a decade ago. As a collaboration with the Dixie Chicks, this song is probably the only country, bluegrass genre song on the entire album. Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince was giving me symphonic rock vibes, which is very new to hear from Taylor Swift. And Daylight was very new wave and reminded me of something Leona Lewis would have recorded. Brilliantly beautiful. The Archer gave me serious 'Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper' vibes.

And with every album, there tends to be a weakness. I am not the biggest fan of ME! As much as I love Panic! At the Disco and Brendon Urie (Sarah Smiles is a beautiful song), I didn't care for the marching beat in the beginning and throughout the song. I don't know, but I felt like they added too much to the song with that beat being one of them. It's a fun song, but to me it isn't her strongest song.

Other songs I dislike on the album include: The Man, London Boy, False God, It's Nice To Have A Friend, and I Forgot You Existed. The vocal diction was not good in I Forgot You Existed, I could not understand a lot of what she sang in the song. The chorus was also not good. False God could have been better without the saxophone playing throughout the song. It's Nice To Have A Friend had a very similar problem, as the trumpet was unnecessary with the song. As perfect as the song was for Swift's pretty isolated vocals, I simply did not get it. And London Boy is not only the worst song on the album, but one of my least favorite songs by her.

Overall, Lover depicts a story about an effulgent woman who is not letting the obstructively obscure steal her shine. It is very 80's new wave sounding compared to her other albums. Almost possessing a retro redux, this album is a reminder why Swift is a woman's artist and will always remain on top in music. Love her or hate her, Taylor Swift is an artist and Lover proves thus so. With that said, I recommend the album.

Lover is currently available at Walmart for only $12.97. To purchase the album, simply click here right now. To get the deluxe Version from Target for $16.99, just click here now.

Jussie Smollett is a liar

In case you are unaware, actor Jussie Smollett has been in the news a lot lately. I first heard about his story on Twitter when I noticed several people in which I follow were tweeting about him. Many were expressing supreme sympathy for the Empire star. I also felt bad for him, as I don't believe anyone has the right to endure any kind of racist or homophobic attack. However, a few days later I have been reading about this guy and certain things do not add up.

He claims he has no recollection of the attack, but still managed to remember the people allegedly yelling "MAGA country" simultaneously and relentlessly as he is getting attacked. If you are attacked and claim to have no recollection, how can you remember this? And I hate to say this, but Chicago is one of the most liberal cities in America. I know this kind of city profiling doesn't mean Smollett is a liar, but I just don't believe this ever happened.

Then, three days after he was attacked he is showing up on the red carpet, as if nothing happened. If you were attacked, why would you attend a premiere only a few days later? I know everyone handles and deals with trauma differently. I am an optimist by nature; however, why would someone who was just in the hospital days before for being physically assaulted want to be in public days later? It just makes no sense to me.

And he claims to have received threats before the attack which include racial slurs, gay slurs and death threats just before throwing out "MAGA" as if his attack were caused by president Donald Trump. He claims to have no recollection of the attack yet continues to throw out Trump's motto "Make America Great Again" often. Why is that?

I think this attack never happened or was simply orchestrated to fit his agenda. Perhaps he is getting fired from Empire and looking for sympathy from people who are working with the show or he's simply mad at president Trump and looking for ways and means to make others hate him. I also believe this kind of publicity stunt may further his career, as more people will likely cast him based on his persecutory delusions and victim playing.

Keep in mind that Smollett is not a huge star. His role on Empire is a regular, but is not known by many. His claim to fame was "The Mighty Ducks" movie. He has appeared in less than 10 movies total. And less than 10 television shows. He is not a big star and no one really knew of him before this alleged attack. This attack basically made him a huge star and is the most attention he has ever received.

Jussie Smollett is a talented man, so the only question I have is - why is he making up something like this? What is he gaining with this story? Everyone is tweeting about how they are sorry this happened to him, that he is a victim and this is hate from Trump supporters, etc. yet they are not looking at his story fully. And yes, before you send me hate messages, please look at his claims and case fully and not one dimensionally. I am not falling for it. He's obviously gaining attention.

Something just does not add up. I am sorry, but I think Jussie Smollett is a liar. I hope the truth comes out in the near future. Perhaps it may never, but I stand by my opinion on this particular story.

Love Runs Out by Sarah Afshar

Love Runs Out by Sarah Afshar in the style of OneRepublic. Yes, I took the liberty of recording this song several hours ago from my iPhone via Smule app. I used the Super Pop filter which is exclusively available to those who are VIP members of Smule. I tried something different with the song.

The song is a great fusion of rock, soul, funk and pop rolled into one tune. I've always loved and appreciated OneRepublic for their strong ability to cover an array of genres and making them work. I am a fan of many songs by them, but Love Runs Out is one of my favorites.

To listen to the song, just click the arrow in the video below...

2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards

Every year the iHeartRadio recognizes and honors the greatest talent in mainstream music. With over 200 million listeners daily, iHeartRadio reaches more people than any other radio or television outlet in the United States alone. And it is official, the iHeartRadio Music Awards will be held on Sunday, March 5th 2017 at the Historic Forum in the heart of Los Angeles. The real question is; however, who are the nominees for this year's awards?

A song can speak so many words, as a song can tell a story. And if that story is powerful or delivers a message, it can make you want to listen to it all of the time. One thing I love about music is the message. Sure an outstanding melody and backbeat can really lure you in, but a story can keep you interested. With so many songs introduced to us in 2016, iHeartRadio is recognizing five of the best. So, what are the best songs of the year? The nominees for 'Song of the year' are officially here. They include:

- "Can't Stop The Feeling" - Justin Timberlake
- "Cheap Thrills" - Sia featuring Sean Paul
- "Closer" - The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey
- "One Dance" - Drake featuring Wizkid and Kyla
- "Stressed Out" - twenty one pilots

One thing I love about this year's nominees is the fact that they are all talented and yet so very different. Lets face it, the women in music are incredibly talented and what better way to recognize and honor them than by the world's biggest radio platform - iHeartRadio. As the awards approach us, here are this year's nominees:

- Adele
- Ariana Grande
- Rihanna
- Selena Gomez
- Sia

2016 brought us a lot of wonderful things. And as we are now in 2017, we can appreciate last year because of it. With so many talented men in music, only five have been recognized this year as the best. So, who is the Best Male Artist of the year for 2017? The nominees for Best Male Artist include:

- Drake
- Justin Bieber
- Luke Bryan
- Shawn Mendes
- The Weeknd

With so many talented artists out there, the dynamic duos and groups really bring something new and different to music. As a team effort is always required in a workplace environment, it is also a great thing to possess in music. With so many duos and groups, there can only be one 'Best Duo/Group of the year'. The nominees for iHeartRadio's Music Awards this year have been officially announced. So, what are they?

- Coldplay
- DNCE
- Florida Georgia Line
- The Chainsmokers
- twenty one pilots

Alternative rock has been quite a preferred genre of rock to many music enthusiasts. And even if you don't appreciate rock, you will love it after you hear the alternative genre. Speaking of Alternative rock, the nominees for Best Alternative Rock song for 2017 include:

- "Bored to Death" - blink-182
- "Dark Necessities" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
- "Heathens" - twenty one pilots
- "Ride" - twenty one pilots
- "Trouble" - Cage The Elephant

As a genre, rock has grown immensely into magic to music. With so many sub-genres, rock remains to be one of the greatest ever. And in recent years, alternative rock has really proved this theory to be true. So, who are the nominees for Alternative Rock of the year?

- blink-182
- Cage The Elephant
- Coldplay
- The Strumbellas
- twenty one pilots

Are you ready to rock? I am obsessed with iHeartRadio and when I heard the list of nominees for best rock song, I guess you could say I was pretty stoked. It's not everyday that bands you appreciated as a child are relevant again. The nominees for Best Rock Song have been officially announced...

- "Bang Bang" - Green Day
- "Dark Necessities" - Red Hot Chili Peppers
- "Take Me Down" The Pretty Reckless
- "The Devil's Bleeding Crown" Volbeat
- "The Sound Of Silence" - Disturbed

If you know me, you know how much I love rock music. In fact, if I had to choose a favorite genre, this would be it. When I heard about the bands nominated for this category, I was quite happy as I am fan of all of them. But the real question remains; what are the nominees for Rock Artist of the Year?

- Disturbed
- Five Finger Death Punch
- Red Hot Chili Peppers
- Shinedown
- Volbeat

Country music is a genre that brings a southern flair that can best be described in a song. With so many amazing songs to choose from, five of them really stood out this year. As Carrie Underwood shared church bells, Thomas Rhett was wearing a t-shirt. And although Cole Swindell insisted you should be here, Old Dominion asked to Snapback just before Dierks Bentley was somewhere on a beach. So, what are the nominees for Best Country Song of the year?

- "Church Bells" - Carrie Underwood
- "Snapback" - Old Dominion
- "Somewhere On A Beach" - Dierks Bentley
- "T-Shirt" - Thomas Rhett
- "You Should Be Here" - Cole Swindell

2017 is a year of a new dawn, a new day and a new life and I think we can all agree that we are feeling good about this year for many reasons. iHeartRadio just announced the nominees for Country Artist of the Year. So, who is the best Country Music Artist of the year? With all of the incredible talent in country music, I am proud to share the nominees for this year...

- Carrie Underwood
- Jason Aldean
- Keith Urban
- Luke Bryan
- Thomas Rhett

Some of the greatest songs ever come from the dance music genre. After all, they are the life of virtually every party. And after hearing the nominees this year, I don't think there has been a moment I sat down because all I did was dance. Yes, it is true. BTW, here are the nominees for Dance Song of the year...

- "Closer" - The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey
- "Cold Water" - Major Lazer featuring Justin Bieber and MØ
- "Don't Let Me Down" - The Chainsmokers featuring Daya
- "I Took A Pill In Ibiza" - Mike Posner
- "Let Me Love You" - DJ Snake featuring Justin Bieber

There is literally nothing more exciting than music that makes you want to get up and just move. Dance music has been around for quite sometime and has recently evolved into something bigger, dipping heavily into mainstream. With many outstanding artists and bands within the genre, I am proud to announce the nominees for Dance Artist of the year.

- Calvin Harris
- DJ Snake
- Flume
- Major Lazer
- The Chainsmokers

One thing to appreciate about the hip hop genre is it's ability to bring something different to music. Although this genre may not be your cup of tea, it could be ones' idea of a perfect drink. As a fan of the genre, it is great to see iHeartRadio recognize the best songs in the genre. So, what are they? What are the nominees for Best Hip Hop Song of the year?

- "All The Way Up" - Fat Joe and Remy Ma featuring French Montana
- "Controlla" - Drake
- "For Free" - DJ Khaled featuring Drake
- "One Dance" - Drake featuring Wizkid and Kyla
- "Panda" - Desiigner

Hip Hop is one of those genres that brings out a fusion of rap, soul and pop with a hint of beat. What I love about hip hop is it's unique way of telling a story using limericks and beats. One thing is certain, you either get it or you don't. The tried & true talent of Hip Hop is found in this year's nominees...

- Desiigner
- DJ Khaled
- Drake
- Future
- J. Cole

The talent is very much real and alive in the music industry. Thank you to iHeartRadio, the awards are even better than ever. As Beyoncé said she was sorry, Bryson Tiller wanted to exchange. As Usher said no limit, that is when Rihanna and Drake wanted to work before Rihanna needed me. The nominees for Best R&B Song of the year include:

- "Exchange" - Bryson Tiller
- "Needed Me" - Rihanna
- "No Limit" - Usher featuring Young Thug
- "Sorry" - Beyoncé
- "Work" - Rihanna featuring Drake

As we say goodbye to 2016 we fly into 2017, we just can't help but appreciate everything the year brought us. A lot of tried & true talent is one thing; however, the legendary iconic talent is another. When I look at the nominees for Best R&B Artist this year, I see so many people who bring so much to music and therefore, are legendary. So, who are the nominees for Best R&B Artist of the year?

- Beyoncé
- Bryson Tiller
- Rihanna
- The Weeknd
- Usher

With every great artist lies a song. A song that tells more than a story. In Latin culture one thing I learned is that every song projects an emotion. An emotion so big, that it gravitates learn music. If a song is meant to be happy and exciting, it will be. If it's mean to depict sorrow and sadness, well it does that too. But the question remains; what are the nominees for Best Latin Song this year?

- "Ay Mi Dios" - IAmChino featuring Pitbull, Yandel and El Chacal
- "De Pies A Cabeza" - Mana featuring Nicky Jam
- "Duele El Corazon" - Enrique Iglesias featuring Wisin
- "La Carretera" - Prince Royce
- "Ya Me Enteré" - Reik featuring Nicky Jam

We live in a century where Latin culture has been embraced in more ways than one. Whether it is through the people, the places, the food and the music, there are so many things one can appreciate. This year the world-renowned radio outlet recognizes some of the greatest Latin artists. So, who are they? Who is the Best Latin Artist of the year?

- Enrique Iglesias
- J Balvin
- Nicky Jam
- Prince Royce
- Yandel

iHeartRadio has officially announced the nominees for this year's awards. Best Regional Mexican Song is a category that you may have never heard of; however, when you hear their music (especially the songs this year) you cannot help but love this genre and appreciate it too. So, what are this year's nominees?

- "Amor Del Bueno" - Calibre 50
- "Cicatrices" - Regulo Caro
- "Me Está Gustando" - Banda Los Recoditos
- "¿Por Qué Terminamos?" - Gerardo Ortiz
- "Solo Con Verte" - Banda Sinaloense MS de Sergio Lizárraga

Hola! Music is suppose to be exciting yet possess a dopamine-like appeal that makes you want to listen to it again and again and again and again. When listening to some of these Mexican artists, I always feel inspired to do something new and different. I've listened to quite a few this year; however, the nominees for 'Best Regional Mexican Artist' tend to stand out the most. The nominees this year include:

- Banda El Recodo de Cruz Lizárraga
- Banda Los Recoditos
- Calibre 50
- Gerardo Ortiz
- Remmy Valenzuela

Best New Rock/Alternative Rock Artist is a new category brought to you by iHeartMusic that recognizes new talent from the rock and/or alternative rock genre. I recently went to a show where I watched about ten different bands back-to-back. I couldn't believe the talent I heard. Needless to say, I was astonished by what I heard. The nominees for 'Best New Rock/Alternative Rock Artist' include:

- Foals
- Kaleo
- Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats
- Red Sun Rising
- The Strumbellas

Country music is a genre to appreciate for its originality and quality. When you hear it, you know you live in a place you can call home. I think of country as the music of America, as it is musical category that originated here. With tons of country superstars today, the talent is endless. And like the other categories here, only a few can be acknowledged, recognized and honored for their gifts towards the music industry. So, who are the nominees this year?

- Chris Lane
- Chris Stapleton
- Granger Smith
- Kelsea Ballerini
- Maren Morris

Hip Hop delivers the greatest beats with a limerick that depicts a story, a story that complements the composition. There are many artists in this category; however, only a few were recognized this year by iHeartRadio. So, who are they? Who are the nominees for 'Best New Hip Hop Artist'?

- Chance The Rapper
- Desiigner
- D.R.A.M.
- Kent Jones
- Kevin Gates

Latin music brings an amazingly new unique sound to music. I don't care what anyone says, if you dislike this genre, you evidently have not heard the right artist. As Best New Latin Artist, this category is filled with relatively new, tried & true talent. The nominees for this category include:

- Carlos Rivera
- Christian Daniel
- CNCO
- IAmChino
- Sofia Reyes

Best New R&B Soul artists really bring an unique quality to music. As a crossover genre, this pop soul fusion takes you to a different world every single time you listen to it. So, who are the nominees this year?

- Belly
- Bryson Tiller
- Dreezy
- Kayla Brianna
- Ro James

Just recently, I have garnered an interest in Latino music. Mexican artists really bring something so amazing to music. With a fusion of ethnic flavor, I am really digging the execution and deliver of these artists and as a result, am very much looking forward to hearing more. So, who are the nominees for 'Best New Regional Mexican Artist'?

- Adriel Favela
- Banda Los Sebastianes
- Cheyo Carrillo
- Joss Favela
- La Séptima Banda

A lot of new categories are added this year to the iHeartRadio Awards roster which is quite exciting if you ask me. One of them is the Best New Pop Artist category. So many talented artists attempt to dip into the industry and only few are able to walk through the door. These amazing talents were lucky enough to share their gifts with the world today...

- Alessia Cara
- Daya
- Lukas Graham
- The Chainsmokers
- ZAYN

There are not many people in this world that can take music and turn it into something remarkable. An artist can do so much; however, we live in the 21st century where so much can be done to enhance a tune and make it that much better. A producer not only lays out the tracks, they mix and master the entire recording. And it is because of this they deserve true recognition for their efforts towards another gifted talent. So, who are the nominees this year?

- Benny Blanco
- Greg Kurstin
- Max Martin
- Mike Elizondo
- The Chainsmokers

When a song is good, it sounds good. The composition is there. However; when a song is great, amazing or even incredible, it depicts a story that one can relate to. A story that simply makes sense. Lyrics really create something special to music. Composition is a foundation; however, without lyrics there is no story one can truly relate to. What are the nominees for 'Best Lyrics'?

- "7 Years" - Lukas Graham
- "Came Here to Forget" - Blake Shelton
- "Cheap Thrills" - Sia featuring Sean Paul
- "Closer" - The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey
- "Heathens" - twenty one pilots
- "Love Yourself" - Justin Bieber
- "Scars To Your Beautiful" - Alessia Cara
- "Send My Love (To Your New Lover)" - Adele
- "Too Good" – Drake featuring Rihanna
- "You Should Be Here" - Cole Swindell

As another socially voted category, I think we can all agree that collaborations add something special to music. One of the things I love about music is the collaboration between two gifted talents. Whether two artists, two bands or an artist with a band and vice versus. You have to admit, it really makes you appreciate music that much more. So, who are the nominees for 'Best Collaboration' this year?

- "Cheap Thrills" - Sia featuring Sean Paul
- "Closer" - The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey
- "Don't Let Me Down" - The Chainsmokers featuring Daya
- "This Is What You Came For" - Calvin Harris featuring Rihanna
- "Work" - Rihanna featuring Drake

Covers can make or break an artist, as they are often compared to the original; however, if they have more moments than the original, they can shine their way creating a world-wide hit (take 'I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston' for instance). Many great talents this year have proved that their rendition of a song is destined to shine and as a result, they are recognized for it. The nominees for this year's best cover song include:

- "All I Ask" - Bruno Mars
- "Ex's and Oh's" - Fifth Harmony
- "Fast Car" - Justin Bieber
- "Hands to Myself" - DNCE
- "Here" - Shawn Mendes
- "How Will I Know" - Ariana Grande
- "Love on the Brain" - Kelly Clarkson
- "Purple Rain" - Jennifer Hudson and the cast of The Color Purple
- "Sound of Silence" - Disturbed
- "Too Good" - Zara Larsson

Every time you watch a movie, do you notice what is playing before, during or after? Another category this year includes 'Best Song from a Movie'. As the Suicide Squad brought you life from your favorite comic book, Trolls delivered a timeless toon of your favorite doll. As the Ghostbusters remake recognized the original by changing things up a bit, we got to see what really happened to Bridget Jones and watch Alice Looking Through the Walking Glass. The question remains; what are the best? Here are this year's nominees:

- "Can't Stop the Feeling" - Justin Timberlake (Trolls)
- "Falling for You" - Ellie Goulding (Bridget Jones's Baby)
- "Girls Talk Boys" - 5 Seconds of Summer (Ghostbusters)
- "Heathens" - twenty one pilots (Suicide Squad)
- "Just Like Fire" - P!nk (Alice Through the Looking Glass)

So, what is your favorite music video this year? The Best New Music category is on fire this year with an array of talent lined up to take home the big award March 5th. As a new category to the awards this year, this is one that recognizes only the hottest in mainstream music today. And the best part is, you get to vote for the best. Who are the nominees this year?

- "Don't Let Me Down" - The Chainsmokers featuring Daya
- "Formation" - Beyoncé
- "Hasta El Amanecer" - Nicky Jam
- "Heathens" - twenty one pilots
- "Hymn for the Weekend" - Coldplay
- "I Took A Pill In Ibiza" - Mike Posner
- "Pillowtalk" - ZAYN
- "Side to Side" - Ariana Grande featuring Nicki Minaj
- "This Is What You Came For" - Calvin Harris featuring Rihanna
- "Work" - Rihanna featuring Drake
- "Work From Home" - Fifth Harmony featuring Ty Dolla $ign

Best Underground Alternative band is a new category to the awards this year which recognizes the best undiscovered talent who embrace the alternative culture and genre. And guess what? You get to choose your favorite. The nominees include:

- Hey Violet

- 5 Seconds of Summer - 5SOSFam
- Ariana Grand - Arianators

CMT to honor Shania Twain

Shania Twain signing autographs.
As a five-time Grammy award winner, Shania Twain is clearly the Queen of Country pop music. As a pioneer of the country crossover genre, Twain is one of the greatest artists ever in music. Selling over 75 million albums world-wide, her album "Come On Over" sold over 15 million copies alone making it the #1 album by any female country artist ever and the best-selling album by any female artist.

I have been a fan of Shania Twain since a child. Her music is very inspiring and uplifting and really brings something new and unique to music. Without Shania Twain, many artists such as Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood would have never had the opportunity to showcase their talent to the world.

Announced today by CMT, Shania Twain will be honored. She will be the first female artist in history to receive the prestigious "Artist of a Lifetime" award. Previous winners of this award include Kenny Rodgers and Merle Haggard who were awarded in 2014 and 2015.

Taped live at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center, the 7th annual “CMT Artists of the Year” will feature once-in-a-lifetime performances, unexpected tributes and unforgettable toasts as the biggest stars of music, film and television gather to celebrate the five artists selected by Country Music Television as the best artists of 2016.

CMT Artists of the Year will premiere Thursday, October 20, 2016. For more information visit CMT today. #CMTAOTY

SKAM Artist remember Prince

Prince doing what he does best, performing live
at Coachella in 2008.
Prince was an iconic superstar, as he was songwriter and singer, the man was a true entertainer. As a little bit of rock n' roll, soul, funk and even jazz, Prince was a composer and a multi-instrumentalist who mastered over 20 instruments by the time he was 30. He also laid out the tracks and produced a majority of his music too. He was an innovator, creator, a teacher and most importantly, a hard worker.

And on April 21st the world cried nothing, but purple tears as Prince tragically lost his life at his Paisley Park home and recording studio in his hometown, Chanhassen. The world was shocked, as the world continues to grieve by the loss of perhaps the greatest artist the world of music has ever seen, Prince Rogers Nelson.

“Prince was in a class all his own. He inspired everyone in the music industry, from DJs, to singers and rappers, producers and beyond. Prince changed the game with the way he fought for his craft every single day. He will be missed beyond measure.” Sujit Kundu, founder of SKAM Artist told AXS.

Meet BMAD: DJ, artist and producer

BMAD is an internationally known DJ and producer located in the heart of Los Angeles. Creating some of the greatest beats to hit the modern music scene, BMAD is the official DJ of 8ky 6lu aka Sky Blu of LMFAO. Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with BMAD. Here is what he had to say:

Sarah Afshar: Hey BMAD. How are you? First and foremost, I just want to say that you are incredibly talented. I am definitely a fan. I wanted to ask you about this amazing song Shine Your Light featuring Chelsea Korka. Tell me a little more about this...

BMAD: This is the first single that I put out on my upcoming album Madness. It is a song that I really just wanted people to connect to and really take away a message from it. Partying is much more than drinking. To me, partying is a celebration of life and love and all of those great things. The song's message really defines what we are really here for.

SA: That is amazing. That is so true.

BM: Absolutely.

SA: Now, I have to ask you-how did you initially link up with 8ky 6lu aka Sky Blu of LMFAO?

BM: I use to be in a band. We were signed to Columbia Records. We basically did that entire band thing and we did a tour with LMFAO. We developed a friendship with Sky from the tour and we would hang out every single day. After that tour, I moved to LA. At the time, he was starting this company called Big Bad that emphasized on creating music and making music together. He asked me to be apart of it and four years later, I have been DJing everywhere. So, it was pretty much kind of like a "fate" thing that happened in life, for sure.

SA: That is amazing.

BM: Yeah, it's pretty cool. He's taught me so much along the way. He has helped me out a lot and showed me quite a few things.

SA: Speaking of that, how does it feel to be part of the Big Bad University?

BM: Big Bad University is made up of more than just musicians and singers. It is made up of dancers, writers, it's really a big family of talented people. There is producers, photographers, fashion designers, and everything in between. It's kind of like our group of friends like people from LA and people who inspire us and surround ourselves with. We all just create and make music and help others too. It isn't like only four artists in Big Bad. There are a bunch of people.

SA: That is so amazing that everyone is helping everyone out.

BM: A lot of times you can get lost in your own creation. For instance, you can get lost in one certain part of a song. Where you get lost, it takes another person to kind of see the big picture and guide you in the right direction, where you end up where you want to be. A mixture of creative minds that work together is just what makes this so amazing to me.

SA: Absolutely. Now, I have to ask you, BMAD, what are your most memorable gigs you have done? Can you tell me a little more about them?

BM: I would have to say that my most memorable show is with Sky on tour in Brazil. The shows were too long of a set. Everyone was just getting so tired because everything was so cramped up. He asked me if I wanted to DJ before and I was like of course. Then, the next day we had a huge show for like 5,000 people or so and I DJed. It was one of the first times I was ever performed in front of a huge crowd. I just remember breaking down after the show and being so grateful and thankful. It was one of those magic moments that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Just knowing the path I wanted to be on. Sky gave me an amazing opportunity and it is probably one of my most memorable shows ever. But, we have done some really cool shows this past year. We did a show with Pharrell in Dubai. Busta Rhymes was just one of many talented artists there. The set was amazing with Sky. Just being there with the entire Big Bad family was great. I had the opportunity to not only rock out on stage, but close at the end of the night, where I did an hour DJ set. It was a memorable moment that I will never forget. There were thousands and thousands of people.

Another one that I can remember is where we performed on the world's largest floating stage in Thailand. We went on speed boat out to the stage in like the middle of the water. All of the people were about two football fields away on the beach partying. That was also really interesting.

SA: That is so amazing. Sounds so exciting. Now, I have to ask you, who are some of the DJs and producers you look up to in the industry?

BM: I really love all of the melodies from people from Showtech. Beach melodies are just incredible. Ummet Ozcan and Calvin Harris are amazing. The music just makes you feel like you are in space.

SA: That is amazing. That is the way music should be though.

BM: Yeah, for sure. Everyone has a different feeling when they listen to music, including their music. I really believe those guys bring something special to music though. Right in the lane where my soul speaks.

SA: What is your favorite type of music? Other than the amazing music that you do.

BM: If I had to say a favorite, not in terms of the type of music that I make, but in terms of what I listen to. Like in the mornings when I drive. I really love 70s music. I'm a band kid and I come from that. I have always had a connection with 70s music. I really love everyone from CCR to The Beatles to the Steve Miller Band, stuff like that. Rock n' Roll baby!

SA: Is it true that you grew up playing guitar?

BM: Yes. I play the guitar and the bass. I grew up with those instruments as my roots. Sky opened my eyes to realm of the electronic music. I have never been to a nightclub before until I was with Sky.

SA: That is fantastic. Absolutely incredible when you discover new things along the way.

BM: Yes, of course.

SA: You are so creative. Now, I have to ask-what is next for you? Do you have any gigs coming up?

BM: Yes, we are working some amazing projects right now including some amazing shows. Follow me on Facebook. In between finishing up my record, there is a lot going on. A few months ago, I was in Amsterdam working with some amazing people, writing. I have also had the opportunity to work with other DJs which is really great. I'm really excited. I have some really great stuff coming. I am putting out some amazing things that I can connect to and others will too. It is going to be an exciting year, I think.

Tamar Juda of Last Word PR

Tamar Juda is a woman with a voice, a vision, and a message. Born and raised in Bethlehem, PA she is currently living in the what she refers to "the best city in the world" New York. She is not only the founder and president of Last Word PR, but one of the sharpest publicists out there in music PR today. Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with Tamar Juda directly. Here is what she had to tell me...

(Q) Hey Tamar. How are you? Tell me a little more about Last Word PR...

Hey there – I’m great! Last Word PR is a full service public relations firm, specializing in music and entertainment. I rep all facades of the music business including producers, rappers, DJs, singers, songwriters, etc.

(Q) Let's talk inspiration! What inspired you to create Last Word PR?

I’m really fortunate that my family gave me the encouragement to go out on my own when I wanted to back in 2008. They all said, “You got this! Go ahead and take the leap…” and ya know what, they were right. You need to listen to your gut (and your family in my case for the extra push) and just go for it when it feels right.

I think it’s important for people to do what comes naturally to them, and working in PR/being a publicist came naturally to me from the start. I knew that I would probably want to start my own company one day; I just didn’t realize that day would come as early as it did in my career. It also didn’t hurt that I had loyal clients.

(Q) Why do you love working in the PR industry?

I love being a publicist and the various aspects that come along with the job. I enjoy the fast pace world of PR, pitching, writing, the creativity, thinking on my feet and helping to usher my clients’ projects out there to the fans in both new and classic ways. It’s incredibly gratifying to pitch something for months and finally open up a magazine and see the feature you secured, or turn on the TV and watch your artist perform – it never gets old for me!

This job and industry isn’t for everyone, but I’ve been fortunate to work with so many incredible artists (and their teams), producers and DJs. It’s a constant grind and finding new ways to challenge yourself to always be better than your last placement. I find it to be an honor to have access and work with great writers and editors, print media, websites, blogs, TV shows/production companies as well as huge corporations that want to collaborate with my clients.

There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t remember that there is a younger version of myself just waiting to take my place, and I’ll tell you something, that alone is enough motivation for me to give my clients my very best everyday.

(Q) Who are some of your clients? Currently, what has been happening at the agency?

I rep Lil Jon, SKAM Artist (a DJ booking and management agency), 8ky 6lu (of LMFAO) as well as singer Mahogany LOX. I’m incredibly proud to work with all of my clients…they’re doing big things and making amazing music.

Folks are usually astounded that I’ve worked with Lil Jon since 2005. I’ve learned a great deal from him [and his team] by working on his various projects and business ventures. I’m lucky because he gives me the space and trust to let me do my job and I think that’s why it’s worked so well all these years. People used to ask me “Where is Lil Jon anyway?” and I always responded the same – he never went anywhere, and frankly he’s everywhere! He’s been DJing around the world (including a DJ residency at the Wynn/Encore in Las Vegas), he was a fan-favorite both times he was on NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice and of course has had tremendous success recently with “Turn Down For What” and “Bend Ova.” I’m honored to be on his team and we’ve got some new exciting things in the works!

Sujit Kundu started SKAM Artist and it’s grown a lot with a roster of over 65 DJs & hosts. It’s a powerhouse agency and I’ve had many DJs ask me how to get Sujit’s attention because they want to be a SKAM Artist. I can honestly say I don’t think I know anyone who works harder than Sujit! That man is a machine and very dedicated to every single person on his roster [securing DJ residencies, booking gigs, coordinating, etc.)…he’s a great example of passion being the catalyst to success.

8ky 6lu is a gem and so talented! That man can write, produce, rap/freestyle and I can’t wait for everyone to hear his new music. One of the special things about 8ky is that he truly is a team player…he listens and respects the feedback he gets from everyone [on his team]. He’s an artist who defines success not just by his own accomplishments, but also by his whole team (Big Bad University) reaching new levels together. His sister [singer] Mahogany LOX is on Big Bad and wait until you hear what she has coming out! She’s already a social media star with millions of followers and also opened up for 5th Harmony on tour DJing. Let me tell you, she’s off to a fantastic start.

(Q) What is the Golden Rule of good PR?

I’m not sure there is one “Golden Rule” of PR, but you’re reputation and ‘word’ are everything. Follow through and do what you say you’re going to do for both your client and the media. It also doesn’t hurt to get an internship early on and be persistent!

(Q) Who are some of your favorite music acts right now?

It’s funny, I remember being told about how talented Big Sean is back in 2008, so I’m loving that he’s doing his thing right now and being recognized for it.

I also like that DJs [in general] are getting more of the respect they deserve in the last few years. They have become the new rockstars! A good or bad DJ can really make or break a night in the club or a party, etc.

My iPod is a hodge-podge of new and old; this and that…I can be listening to Rae Sremmurd, Ludacris and Migos one minute and then The Cranberries, Betty Who and Shiny Toy Guns the next.

(Q) Let's talk beauty! What is your beauty regimen? What are some of your favorite beauty products right now?

I’ve used Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Lotion for years. I really like the consistency of it, I find it to be between a lotion and a gel. I’m a huge fan of Mario Badescu and use several of their products.
Recently I started using Fresh’s Rose Hydrating Eye Gel Cream after reading some good things about it. It’s really moisturizing and smells divine! Worth every penny. Cetaphil cleanser is a must - a tried and true face wash.

I am also a big fan of Bliss’ Fabulous Foaming Body Wash, as it has a fresh clean smell. Since I have curly hair, it’s important to have products that are really moisturizing. I like OGX’s Renewing Argan oil of Moracco shampoo and L’Oreal’s Moisture Rush Mask. My favorite hand cream on the planet is In Love by Lollia.

(Q) Do you have a favorite fragrance you love to wear? What is your favorite perfume?

My go-to perfume is J’adore Dior. I often get asked what I have on when I’m wearing that scent. I find it to be a really wonderful balance of being floral, but still bold.

(Q) What are your favorite makeup products?

There are some MAC products I have used for a long time now including the Eye Kohl eyeliners, their eye-shadows have great pigment (Dazzlelight and Contrast are favorites), and their bronzing powder is great (I use Golden). MAC also has really fantastic lipstick and lipgloss colors...I have more than I care to admit!

If I want a heavier look for night, I like Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Shadows (a personal favorite is Birthday Suit). Like most women out there, I have yet to find a better blush than Nars’ Orgasm. It doesn’t matter what season it is or how tan or pale I am, the color is always perfection.

Maybelline’s Rocket Volum’ Express mascara really packs a punch. It is another favorite of mine. I find that the wand really coats my lashes well. Finding a good illuminator can make a big difference in making your cheeks glow in that Jennifer Lopez-way we all want! Smashbox makes one I like a lot (Photo Op Illuminator), it’s just the right amount of shimmer.

(Q) If you could share one beauty secret, what would it be and why?

I’m a firm believer that you should never go to sleep with your makeup on. Every single night I make sure to take off all my makeup, no matter how tired I am. I also think that “less is more,” I don’t pile on or layer oils/creams/serums on my face at the same time.

(Q) What is one beauty product you have always wanted to try, but haven't and why?

To be honest, I’ve never tried a spray tan. I think I’m afraid once I start I won’t be able to stop because I do love a tan! I think for now I’ll stick to other tricks like bronzers, lotions, etc.

(Q) What is your #1 guilty pleasure right now and why?

I can’t resist a Bravo reunion or a Nike Dunk Sky Hi (wedge) sneaker.

(Q) Name 3 guests (living or deceased) you would like to have a dinner party with and why?

I most definitely would want Larry David there because that man would make me laugh the entire time. And frankly, I would love to talk about nothing with him anytime. I would also love Ryan Seacrest to be at that dinner and pick his brain about business, because that man knows what works! He’s mastered the entertainment/TV business and he also has a genuine respect for music artists, which I appreciate. And last but certainly not least, what’s a dinner party without Oprah!? She asks the most poignant questions, she’s thoughtful and isn’t afraid to “go there…” and seems like a ton of fun once she’s had some cocktails! Can you imagine a conversation between her and Larry David? One day, right!

(Q) For all of those entertainment enthusiasts reading this interview, what would you like them to know? What is next for Tamar Juda? What is next for Last World PR?

I would love for those enthusiasts to know a few things: first and foremost the entertainment business isn’t all glitz and glamour. It’s a lot of work and hard work at that. At the end of the day it’s a business and everyone had to do his or her part to keep it moving along (and successful). This industry is also incredibly fast-paced which I find helpful because it weeds-out the people who aren’t cut out for this.

Additionally, I also want young people wanting to get into the industry to know that you can do it. I had numerous friends or people in my life growing up [for which I remember every single one of them] who would roll their eyes or think I’m crazy for wanting to get into the music/entertainment industry – well, look at me now! I did it all on my own starting with internships, making connections and doing the work.

A long time ago I learned that when you think you have all your “ducks in a row” something else pops-up and you just need to roll with it. I’m not sure what’s next for Last Word PR, perhaps I’ll expand my company even more, but for right now I’m happy where it is and the extent to which it’s grown steadily since 2008.

This will sound absolutely corny (and I acknowledge this), but the success for me personally is that I get to wake up everyday loving what I do. That’s the truth…I get to be creative, I work with amazing talent/music and I get to be my own boss. Nobody handed me anything, I did the work and it paid off.
